aussiemum:Yes, very true. I have already advised a couple of friends who got relocation offer to SG --> No education package, don't come. But in reality.. expat package is not by default anymore.. so this situation will be pushing a lot of talents with young family away..
Its not just not default, I have been here nearly 10 years and I don't know a single expat with a relocation package at all, and that includes people working in banking. Almost consigned to the history books, but a lot of people think we still get them. *sigh*The argument that because Country A does it, and Singapore must follow is a weak one (vice versa, applies to all policies, not just education and school enrollment). Circumstances differ from country to country and if the host country chooses not to implement it (as is, in my case), that's their prerogative.floppy:
Also, while it may be true that some countries may provide free education to its citizens and even dependents of foreign workers, many other countries do not do that either.
...
Until all countries agree to a framework of universal free basic education for children under 12, I doubt the Singapore Government would change its policy.
The rules / policies for enrollment are in place prior to relocation. If it isn't part of the consideration when relocating, perhaps it could be a good learning point for future expats.

No letter here either. There are no other options other than:I am worrying now... Not yet receive any letter from MoE until now... Most of my kid's mate already receive a letter and most of them are being rejected with no alternative local school provided by MoE..
I'm praying hard that my kid will be accepted otherwise don't know what to do next..
I tried to contact MoE and the school directed but they just told ke to wait for the letter..
Other than international school and home schooling, any other private primary school that not as expensive as international school? Need to prepare for the worse..
Local school - which people are getting rejected from
Private school - which will cost you @$25,000 per year and up
Home schooling - either by parents or groups of parents pooling together
Leave.
If they say no to Local school, we cannot afford international school (I have 2 kids, so I'll be looking at well over $50,000 a year - ridiculous to people on \"normal\" wages) so leaving is sadly going to be the only realistic option. Which is very sad as we are very settled here and this is the only country my kids have known. -
RE: All About Pri 1 Registration for Foreigners & Phase 3
In the UK and I believe most of the EU, all dependants of people with work visas get *free* education and have to send their kids to school or face arrest.
The children of persons entering the UK as work permit holders are entitled to the same free education as British children.
http://www.workpermit.com/uk/work_permit/spouses_dependants.htm
Meanwhile here in Singapore, I'm still waiting for the letter from the MOE for my daughter. If they say no, we will have no choice but to move out of SG, the only place my locally born kids have ever lived. :nailbite: -
RE: All About Pri 1 Registration for Foreigners & Phase 3
Anyone have any comments over which to choose in Tampines, East View or Angsana? East View is closer to my home, but Angsana is one straight bus drive away. Both have the most seats available at 2c, and going by balloting history both should be "safe" (as can be, anyway) bets for phase 3. I have no idea about the quality of each school.
Thanks in advance! -
RE: [Tampines] Primary Schools
Hi, long-time living in Tampines foreigner here, looking to get my daughter into a school for 2015 in Phase 3.
The choices are:
Junyuan, East View or Angsana. Angsana had the most seats left for Phase 2c, so the assumption is that’s the safest choice for Phase 3. But I have no idea of the quality of the three schools, do we have any parents on here with kids there at the moment? The survey here is old and swamped by St Hildas which we all know is impossible to get into!
Thanks in advance.
