My boy will be 2nd batch as he is born in 2010. So how does affiliation works under this new change? Will there be a COP set for affiliation?

Seheena:
Cat High IP COP is 253 vs ACSI O level 249 so it looks like he is appealing to a school of lower COP than the one he was offered.Marcus_Mummy:
Finally we reject acsi offer. DS make the choice.
Question, did he meet the COP of acsi? -

For those 257 but didn’t select RI as 1st choice as never expect it could drop so much will be upset I guess.Dun understand why so much concern over drop of COP for RI.
Isn't it good that more kids are eligible to get in. -
RE: 2017 Secondary School Selection for 2018
ParkYuni:
The news paper is reporting the S1 posting results. The ranking has always been using COP for non-affiliation. COP here is defined as the lowest T-score (include HMT for SAP school) been admitted into the school for non affiliation. The number of vacancies left after affiliations and DSA intake greatly affect COP for non-affiliation aside from popularity of the school. To me it is factually correct that NYGH is the most difficult to get in with the highest COP for those without affiliation. They have to report COP to include HMT for SAP as that is per MOE rule for SAP schools otherwise it will be factually not correct. However, this ranking by COP should not be interpreted as school standard ranking. NYGH with highest COP (non-affiliation) does not equate to highest T-score of students admitted given the various factors like HMT bonus points, affiliation, DSA intake etc.
As mommyNg mentioned, NYGH is a SAP school hence the COP would have included HMT. If assuming your guess is reasonable, the COP could easily be between 255 to 259 (without HMT added), assuming most NYPS (SAP) pupils can score at least a merit for HMT.Harrychew:
NYPS affiliation cut off was 250 in 2016, and since only a small minority of female NYPS students score above 250 but below 264 COP (maybe 30+ pax?), I do not think the COP is skewed by too much. I would hazard a guess that without affiliation, NYGH COP should be in region of 257 to 261.
On the other hand, if the difference between affiliation COP and non-affiliation COP is large and in the statistically more populated T-score zones, then the COP impact will be much larger.
What I am trying to derive is that as a national newspaper, it's better for the journalist not to publish such figures as they are pretty misleading at a glance. The figures are affected by different factors and not a fair comparison. It seems like the chinese press likes to take side with SAP schools. This makes them less credible and unreliable to readers who have better knowledge of how the actual system runs.
@ jtoh, I remember NYPS always amazingly produces close to 50% of 250 scorers if one digs into the past KSP forums. I believe their pool of affiliations is significantly high. -

Same for DHS also just mentioned Express. I think only those schools with dual track they will specifically mention Integrated Programme. -

I wasn’t expecting the MGS IP cop to rise this year due to the increase in spaces. It added another IP class (from next year, there are 3 classes instead of 2).
Could be driven by the increasing popularity for IB program. MGS is the only girls school to offer IB.Milly13:
So all COP is base on demand & supply? This time round we see increase in COP at SCGS, CHS, SNGS & the usual norm for RI & HCI to be at 260 also drop.
I thought for top schools mainly stay unchanged or drop. SNGS is 257 last year this year 256. SCGS unchanged at 252. Only CHS & MGS increase by 1 pt. Looks like drop in DSA intake has resulted in this trend? -

Seems like taking the 4 yrs (O Level) and 2 yrs (A Level) path separately is still better.
I think it’s really how motivated the child is. Individual learning attitude become very important as you reach Sec as in Primary sch I think some kids can do very well with parent support and push.janet88:
So even a 250 tscore doesn't mean steady performance in sec level.
IP is a long and stressful journey.
a friend of mine told me the same thing...when daughter was in year 4, she was also facing the fear of not being promoted to year 5.
My niece did her O levels quite well a 4 pointer but not so well in A levels as compared to those in IP stream from her school. She mentioned those who go by O levels have to switch school and get used to new friends and Teachers and within 2 years sit for A levels as compared to those IP stream who are in same school and already set their goal for A level at the start, less disruptive. -
RE: 2017 PSLE Discussions and Strategies
The change in PSLE system and replacing the T score with banding is really to stop parents from chasing every single points. Currently every point matters sometimes even to the decimals that we do not see in posting results.
