      TheSolver:
For milo-cupcake's question, all you need is one step:

      360-105-127=128
That is the answer to both 'a' and 'b'.

      This is why:
If you draw a line from Q to S, PQS+TSQ=180. And the angles in triangle QRS would also be equals to 180. So, 180+180=360. This 360 degrees refers to PQR+QRS+RST.
If you add up all the angles in this figure, it will be 720 degrees(If you do not know how to find this, please quote this reply and reply me). 720-360=360. So, this 360 refers to QPU+PUT+UTS. So, just take the only step you need and you will get 128.
You do the same thing for 'b' by drawing a line from P to R.

Hope this helped if you do not understand, tell me.
      :thankyou:

      Hi,

Can someone help with the following questions? I'm new in Algebra so hope there are step by step workings. :?:
      Thanks in advance!

      a) A pencil costs n cents and a notebook thrice as much which is 3n cemts.

      b) The amount that she paid for the notebooks = $16.20 - 6n = $6(2.70 - n). (Note : Remember to simplify whenever possible as students are expected to do so.)

      Thank you alfretztay

      CookieMonster123:
Since a pencil costs n cents and a notebook thrice as much, it should be 3n cents for part a

      B)
Let' x' be the number of notebooks bought,
6n would be the cost of 6 notebooks
3xn would be the price of x notebooks
      6n + 3xn = 16.20
Thus the price of the notebooks is 16.20-6n

      Thank you CookieMonster123
