Hope be able to get some advices here. My boy has just obtained his G8 abrsm piano. He is in Sec 1. He has passion about music but as a parent I have no idea how to sketch his path making him to shine better. What can he do next actually? Continue to take Dip? Besides that anything can help in his academic/studies? Please help.
Post Grade 8 for solo playing there are various Dips by the exam boards.
DipABRSM is the most well regarded one, but also demands high playing standard and excellent sight reading skill. ATCL and ALCM are easier alternatives, but not as well regarded. ARSM shares the same repertoire as DipABRSM but is marked like Grade 8 and hence significantly easier to pass.
Beyond solo playing, I would recommend taking certifications for accompanying or chamber music. Trinity offers Piano Accompaniment up to Grade 8, and LCM offers Dips. For theory it is always useful to clear the Grade 8, either ABRSM or Trinity. If want to diversify into non classical, there are also grades and dips offered by Rockschool and Trinity Pop.[/quote]
