Hi Mini-Bug, the current principal now Mdm Rhao was from Raffles Girls. I would say this school is not bad for a neighbourhood school. Nowadays they do not overly emphasize on academic only as they want to promote holistic all-rounder education.

For the past few years Yumin won many awards for being such a school, and also they have had 100% PSLE passing rates too.

    • RE: I Can Read - Discussion

      Hi mummies,

My son born 2009, has been attending 2 terms of ICR at PP until they changed franchise and now the name of the centre is My English School.

These 2 terms he is in their \"Thinking & Creative Skills\" level (2nd level).
Just wondering, because next year he will be joining English Speech & Drama, I'm now in a dilemma whether to let him continue in My English School since I'm paying the same price but not for the ICR program structure.
Worried that 2 enrichment classes a week will be too tiring for him.

      Any feedback or comments?
      :thankyou:

Just to share, one mummy I know sent her 5yo son to Singapore media academy for Chinese S&D. They have English S&D too.

Too bad they only have weekend classes for kids becos I am looking for weekday evenings so to leave my weekends free for kids outings.

Her son is quite confident and carries himself well.
Just to share, as an additional option for you mummies to consider 🙂
ps. I'm not affiliated or related to SMA.

      sundaymorning:

      Hi, which branch is that?
Probably the teacher are lacked of expertise in managing kids that are more active. They are in fact puzzled on where to fit your child, which makes me think otherwise about Lorna Whiston.
Thanks for informing and hope you could find a better s&d enrichment program 🙂
Hi its the United square branch. But both branches at Parkway and United Sqaure are linked so they are actually running the same system. whatever your child does at either centre the other centre will also know.

    • RE: All About English Speech & Drama Enrichment

I read about Lorna Whiston speech & Drama enrichment from online, and decided to let my child go for a trial because he is active and I prefer non-classroom teaching.

The teacher was a relief teacher, she said my child’s level of Phonics is not so strong so she doesn’t think he should join S&D, suggest to join Phonics class instead.

So on another weekend, brought him to Lorna Whiston phonics assessment and trial lesson, the teacher at the end of the lesson didn’t give much feedback, only said my child enjoyed himself and that he’s very active. So at the reception, the ladies asked how was the trial? do we intend to sign up? I said Ok, and the receptionists said they will send the invoice to us for us to make payment the next lesson. So Ok, we left and went home. This was on last Saturday.

Today (Tues), a representative from the school called and said my son is not suitable to join their Phonics class because he is too "spirited and lively", and that he was not settled down. I assume by this she meant he must’ve disrupted the class. But when I asked the representative and my son, they both agreed that my son enjoyed the lesson.

Anyway, bottomline is - if every child is such a perfection and genius, then there wouldn’t be a need for enrichments or the sort.
What is the purpose of signing up with a renowned school as Lorna Whiston S&D only to be told to join a sit-down 2-hours phonics class and subsequently that he cannot join their school at all…
I work with children and I have to say, not all children will sit down nicely in class and pay attention especially on their first lesson and they do not know the teacher as no rapport has been built.

Lorna Whiston is Full of nonsense and waste of our time. 2 weekends in fact.
