Oh thanks for sharing.Glad to know im not alone.is the article new?

Yes the article was published yesterday. My daughter also says IP is tough as it’s not like PSLE where the results are only concentrated on major exams. All the group work and projects mean that your results also depend on the team members you work with, and there’s constant competition. And RV is autonomous, not an independent school like most IP so there’s a limit to the funding to work with.

If there’s difficulties you are facing, try to consult a trusted mentor on how to progress forward. Just don’t give up on progressing your education to a higher level, no matter which path you take.

      Here’s another relevant article:

Actually Im a student from rv and I just wanna say that rv isnt really good.First of all, the notes are quite bad and other schools have better notes that even we use to study.Secondly, the teachers arent really good except for a small handful and they just have really high expectations of students in their tests and most of them have \"pets\"(obviously Im not one, in fact Im a certified pest)Oops back to topic, which is that teachers also dont really care about students' feelings I feel?My teacher actually made fun of me before. Also, triple sci classes are very stressful and competition is intense. And when you add awful classmates...ugh.Plus the school counsellor is a guy with a creepy smile (ohmygawd help) which doesnt help any bit with counselling. The sch principal is also always taking credit for the achievements of students and praising the school but whatever(handshake anyone?photo?).Well I just get remedial everyday other than cca days which is a waste of time and teachers look like they are as done with us as we are with them.Which is a lot.Now I also have a mental illness which I cant help but attribute it to the school.Year 3 is also awful with so many common tests every week(mostly twice) and eoys which there seems to be no lack of.Wheres the break?Holidays are a hoax cos its packed with loads of hw and remedial(too bad cos im dumb) and cca.Im so done.

Bottom line:Rv sucks(sorry for the long post) 😞
The points that you mentioned seem rather similar to what is mentioned in the attached article. It describes about the constant pressure and competition as typical challenges faced by students of the rigorous IP program. It also mentions about alternate paths to consider in future.

      Thanks
RV doesn’t offer soccer as CCA. Refer to the full list of CCA’s pubslished in the School Information Service site:

RV’s 2017 A-Level Results page states the following:

98.3% of the cohort scored at least 3H2 + GP Pass
99.6% of the cohort scored at least 4H2 + GP Pass

Anyone knows if this is a typo? It doesn’t make sense.

      http://rivervalleyhigh.moe.edu.sg/achievements/2017-gce-a-level-results

      Hi, the website says this:
98.3% of the cohort scored at least 3H2 + GP Pass
99.6% of the students who offered 4H2 subjects scored at least 4H2 + GP Pass

Not all the students take 4H2 subjects, so the 98.3% is inclusive of 3H2 and 4H2 while the 99.6% only refers to those who take 4H2

Thanks, the part I pointed out was corrected on the website quite a while ago so it’s all good. It was just a typo.

I don’t remember any formal lessons on first few days. Get ready to select the CCA

Just wondering how soon one has to decide and what's the chance of getting accepted into the preferred CCA. My DD is interested in netball but she has no prior involvement in the form of CCA.[/quote]You won’t need to worry as they will share with you the details during the parents’ briefing.

For the previous batch (2017 intake), there was a CCA trial for over a week for students to try out after school. After the CCA trial they were given a deadline to submit their options (6, iirc). Many CCA’s don’t require prior experience, though it’s highly preferred.

      Hi all

May I know why are science and history books not listed in the year 1 booklist?
These subjects are taught through notes or course books that are prepared by the school so text books aren’t needed, unless you wish to purchase for reference purpose.

For every 1 of this 181 pointer going to medicine school, wonder how many have gone to other much much less lucrative paths?
What is the point of highlighting the $10m toto winner, when the rest of Singapore just lost $10m or more to Singapore pool??

In the article it was mentioned that he was playful and only “flipped through my textbooks a day before my PSLE exam”, it’s already amazing he made it to N(A) with such poor attitude towards PSLE. So it’s not a miracle that he’s a late bloomer, rather he chose to achieve his potential at a later stage.

In reality there are kids who’ve tried hard in their studies for years prior to PSLE with daily tuition yet may not make it to Express. Will be personally more interested to hear about the success stories of such kids later in life..
