RE: Stay-Home-Moms Rejoining Workforce
Been thinking of going back to work again after staying home for almost 4 years. My DD is now in lower primary and DS in 4 hour kindy.
I enjoy staying home as i get to be very involved in the kids’ daily lives. I get to be in the PSG in both my kids’ schools and a lot of bonding time with them. But these few months i realize i need to do something for myself too. I have a sudden fear of living on single income. I feel a little sad when i look at my most recent CPF statement. A sudden fear that an
illness can easily wipe out all savings. I feel i have been stagnant. I want to learn a new skill that will enable me to work. Im prepared to get paid at entry level, fresh grad as long i learn a new skill. But then i realize its not that easy. So many things to consider. Kids after school care, whos going to pick send kids to school and enrichment centres. I cant really trust my helper to bring them to classes. Rearrangement of enrichment classes to weekends will not be feasible as hubby likes to keep weekend s free. Who will get the kids to do hw and piano practices. Who will Bring lunches to schools (special dietary requirement).
Also, for the jobs im looking for, there’s rarely part time job or Flex hr job. Many even require to do shift works. Sat, sun. Sigh. I just feel kinda stuck. -
RE: How to tell if a child is gifted?
Anyone interested, may want to google The tortoise hypotheses at Davidsongifted. The article tries to list out a few hypotheses on why kids do things at tortoise pace.
The thing is, there does not seem to be a hypothesis that explains for my child’s behaviors. My kid was tested to have average processing speed. So at first i thought his slowness in doing homework to daily activities must be due to this. Until last year, when he came back home with full marks for all speed maths tests. Then i start to wonder… did he purposely do things slowly with me on purpose so that he gets to argue with me and sees how frustrated i get cry -
RE: All About Choosing and Buying Pianos
Hi, anyone has any recommendation where to rent piano? My child will be taking grade one exam next year. I intend to rent a piano at home so he gets to practice daily.

RE: Anyone know any good Child Psychologist ?
Since last year, my 8 year old son confided in me that he has an intense feeling that i am a police officer in disguise to catch him. He told me about this on several occasions. Twice, he asked if it was just a dream and he pinched me to see if it’s real. Is it normal for a child to think this way?
Just yesterday, while eating out, i saw my son’s expression changed and he appeared anxious. I asked him whats the matter and he told me he would tell me in private. Later at home, he told me that the waiter at the restaurant made some wierd gestures to him (waiter actually made friendly funny faces at my boy to tease him) before disappearing into the kitchen. My son asked why was the waiter sneaky and that half way thru dinner, he had a sudden feeling that someone put poison in his food. Thats why he became worried. Again, is this normal for kids to be so suspicious?
Im actually getting worried and has been checking info abt hallucinations, paranoid and stuff. Do u think its just a normal childhood phase or shld i bring him to check? -
RE: GEP 2015 - Class Starting P4 in 2016
Actually when i first read somewhere in the forum that there were different sets of papers, the thought of unfairness/fairness did come to my mind. davidchan67, i absolutely can understand urs and ur child’s pain. Is it possible to appeal?

RE: Ds is good at nothing
Many times we are so overwhelmed with certain issues that we overlook the good things in the kid. Mothers are usu the ones in charge of coaching, results and character building. We take up all these huge responsibilities. Thinking if the child does not perform, its our fault. This makes life miserable for the child and parent. Family relationship will also be affected.
For me, even though my boy does ok (so far), has a positive attitude in learning, i tend to still think he is not good at anything due to his behaviour and character (we have opposite personality). Many times I have to keep telling myself to pause, and think of all the things he has done well. I find sharing with my son the things that he has done right /well also help create a positive mindset. Like yesterday, i complimented him for letting his younger sibling had the bigger share of chocolates. I told him what a generous and loving brother he is. By saying this, it actually helps ME see the good things in him, instead of the bad ones (which he had done for the past one hr). Also, whenever i flare up, my hubby will remind me that kids are kids. We have to remember that and lower our expectations. Im sorry, may have OT. Hope things will be better. Its a learning journey for everyone. -
RE: How to tell if a child is gifted?
Re read your previous post. Really happy that your child's doing academically very well. Scoring full marks for all subjects.. :rahrah: its not easy for kids. Most of the time its no that they dont know how to ans, they lose marks due to carelessness :slapshead:

RE: How to tell if a child is gifted?
Mathwiz,
Thanks for your reply! Similar to Ur chiLD's sch,
his teacher did call me up in Term 1 that she would like my son to coach his classmates in Maths and Chinese. But being a child, he does not know what coaching involves, he simply told his friends the answers
So far, none of the teachers mentioned to me that I should get him tested. I'm still sitting on the fence, weighing the pros and cons.. worried that I would be opening a can of worms. For one I know, my hubby is definitely not supportive of the assessment. As test is expensive.
