Hi Mrs_SingRat
My son has also been with Shichida for 4 years, he is now in P1.
Prior to the 6 years old class, most of the parents withdrew to prepare their child for P1.
I stayed with Shichida and decided to try out their Junior Program (which is the seven yr old class) and it was a big disappointment.
The activities that they are doing in Junior class are lesser and more time consuming.
They need to fix a 40 pieces jigsaw puzzle within 3 mintues, which they can never finish and there are alot of copying passage or sentences during class which is very time consuming.
The teacher gave them a long poem which they are suppose to memorise at home, every week 3 students will take turn to recite out, while the other three will write dow the poem. after the 3 students have recited out the poem, the teacher will give them another 3 minutes to continue writing down the passage. (bear in mind, it a longgggg passage which the kid can never finish reciting or finish writing within 3 mins).
Next, they are given the matrix to do. According to the teacher, there are total of 54 steps which takes minimum 2 years to complete.
Its the same set of matrix that your child is currently doing, except that
the addition are in double digits. Most kids in the class are stuck at step 5 and have not moved on, because u need to complete minimum 97/100 questions correctly within 3 mins to move on to next step. :yikes:
Next they are shown a set of literature flash cards which I myself also cannot comprehend the storyline not to mention the kids in the class with a blur look.
You need to bear in mind, if you want to continue with the Junior program, there are alot of commitment to do.
The Linking memory recitation will be increased from 250 to 500 words within 5 mins, and teacher will give u 10 sets of mandala to do home practice. each week, she will test the child a different set of mandala.
I have withdraw my son from the program last week as I realised the
brain stimulating activities has lessen alot. A check with the teacher also
confirmed the kids will be undergoing similar activites throughout the
next 6 years to be inline with the primary school curriculum.
Anyway, according to the program, right brain training works best before the child turns six.
My son is glad to know his last day of class is end of march and I will be sending him to other enrichment classes which he told me he looks forward to. Perphas, you can ask your son opinion if he would like to continue with the program? My son tld me previously he enjoyed the activites, but a drastic change in the curriculum has cause him to lost interest and I decided to withdraw him out.My boy has been in Shichida since he was 20 months old. Prior to that, he was with Little Nuero Tree for 6 months. Shichida has been an important part in my boy life since we started with the program. He is in k2 now, lately, i m seeing our shichida classmates leaving the programme one by one. I believe parents move their children for P1 preparation like English, Maths and Chinese elsewhere. My dilemma is, should i move my boy to other Maths enrichment classes or stay on with Shichida. Can someone adv pls..really want to hear from those mummy or whoever has experienced this stage.
Thanks:)
Thanks for the generous sharing sunset_dae. I am now prep with what will happen in the coming term of P1 in 2015.
My boy has shared that it is no longer that interesting like before. This could be due to the stress have to clear maths matrix, peg memory and linking memory at the same time. I agree that we really need commitment to follow the program by doing home practice. We discussed and decided to try out another term for P1 Junior Course in 2015 to see what the program can offer, we will then review it term by term if we want to continue further.
. I finally know bttr as in how does the school function and what i can expect, I am glad that i have put my prince to this kinddy  .
