i those who think Alumni should be scrapped.. it's really a pity to see some children have to be at the pickup location so early in the morning and travel 30 km daily just to go to school and back. Just because the child parents are an alumni to a certain branded school and home is like 15 km away...

distance should be priority after citizenship&siblings.. if schools are located really in those less populated areas, the instead of 1 km.. we can move the radius to 5km.. it's still less then 15 km!
I think mindset should be changed that only branded schools have alumni! Neighbourhood schools have that too. If distance is a priority, I am afraid these so called branded schools will be taken over by the rich and wealthy who can easily afford accomodation right next to it.

Recently on Today's Online - Voice, several articles on alumni system being unfair when it comes to Primary School Registration..any view? I personally feel its unfair..alumni system should be abolished to allow greater clarity..is there already a thread about this? Please move me there...

Actually, What is wrong about this alumni system that you feel is unfair? How would abolishing it allow more clarity?

At every stage of registration, there will be unhappy and happy parents. It is hard to satisfy everyone.

Haha, yeah I'm feeling a little bit anxious and also excited. I've heard that Rosyth can be a bit of a pressure cooker. My hubby and I have been rather relaxed with our playful little girl. Only 1 enrichment class a week (Chinese). If she suddenly gets flooded with work at primary school, we (or I) will be a bit lost, I think. So trying to prepare now šŸ™‚

Ha Ha! I have 2 kid's thru 9 years with Rosyth. I'd say Rosyth is not a pressure cooker. P1 to P3 honeymoon years. My kids were in the pm school then. They always finish work at night. Next morning, I can still bring them to the park for picnic or a walk or just relax doing fun things at home.

Those who suffer are the ones bogged down by outside classes. Some having tuition for every subject and have double homework as a result. School homework alone is never too much. My kids had no tuition and I help them to learn how to make every piece of teacher's assignment count.
It is not how much you do but how much you learn from the doing. So help them in that respect then they can have a childhood. And please, don't pass your anxiety to them. They have a lot to cope in school, peer pressure, teacher's expectation, a lot a lot of scolding, reprimanding, blaming and shaming from authorities, sometime thru no fault of theirs.

About class I and A. These classes do not mean getting best teachers. Being in these classes just mean the expectation on the kids are higher, they give more difficult worksheets but that does not mean you get better instructions to cope with the difficulty. So basically, these kids in I and
A have a lot of kiasu parents pumping them with expensive tuition aka Learning Lab, being the hot favorite. It's inevitable, the results come out better. You are paying for it and all the extra time your kids have to spend for outside classes. After awhile, parents start to think their kids could be gifted because always get 90%. Some get shattered to tears both parents and kid when the kid did not get selected for GEP. If you want you child to have a chance to get into GEP, do not drill them sick with assessment books or tuition. Such thing is a waste of time on a gifted child. You do that only to prepare for PSLE. They need thinking stimulation outside of school
subjects. More of the same thing is a definite killjoy and torture.

As in every schools, there are a few really fantastic teachers here. And I don't mean just kind teachers who talk respectfully to the children and not treat them like monkeys in the zoo. These few teachers have REAL TEACHING SKILLS and they make you want to kowtow to them as they are so passionate in the subject they are teaching they can make your kid so excited and even you so excited about the subject.

Osim, thank you for sharing your wonderful experience. Enlightening!
:thankyou:

Concern mum, according to Rosyth's website, 108 (within 1pm) balloted for 24 vacancies in P2C in 2011. Hope this helps.

Agree... balloting is not a fun process at all.

some win, some lose. However, the message was written in a 'light hearted' way... which I think... kinda ease my tension too šŸ™‚
better stay away to avoid the tension?
i experienced that before, really really depressed for weeks.
I will avoid teh tension and if i really dont get it, i am prepared mentally for backup. no stress...
Agree that this is a stressful process. Although I am lucky to have secure a place in 2A1, still feel the tension that my friends with P1 going kids are undergoing...it is really stressful! :frustrated:
