      Hi

My gal is P5 this year and we are interested to try next year DSA / Sota TA. She has been in NAFA Junior arts for 5 years with some art pcs on exhibition. Not in any comppetition. Wonder what will be the chance of getting into SOTA.
Congrats to those success in getting a CO via VA. Can advise how to go about preparing art portfolio and how to prepare the interview and TA.
Can someone help me to line up through estimated phase / timeline from form submission to final wait for the letter? I am quite blur....Thanks alot.
Hi. You should start preparing the portfolio now. We had some help from an art teacher, Mr Ler, from Chong Pang CC. His website is http://pibilotti.com.sg/ During my DD's batch, he has a few students all trying for DSA. My DD was more into painting (water, acrylic paint) and was taught sketching by him. It was a blessing as the on the spot DSA test was sketching. The portfolio can consist of art work done from P3 onwards. I remember DD has to submit a sketch book as part of the DSA portfolio. During the DSA, they were asked to comment/critique on each other's drawings. Why good or no good. Things may has changed now as my DD is going to Year 4 next year. One advice is that the child's English has to be good as the school combined Literature with Eng Lang. Understand from my DD is that if you fail Eng, you need to repeat. It is an Art school - in all sense, and focus is on Arts - Geo, History, Lang etc. Maths for Year 3 has a bit of E & A Maths - so for those who are poor in Maths, they will find Year 3 Maths (Standard Level) a struggle. However, those who fail Maths at Year 2 can take Fundamental Maths. Maths at SOTA Year 1 and Year 2 is really easy - compared to my other kids in O level school and another IB school. The English is however, a lot more difficult. At Year 2, you need to analyse poetry. IMO, the new principal focus a lot more on academic, then the Art form, which is good. There is no CCA as the Art form is already the CCA. Hours can be long - up to 4pm-5pm each year. Personally, I like the school and the curriculum so far. In Year 1 Maths , they were asked to do an assignment on \"percentage\" and had to find an example of how \"percentage\" is applied in real life. Example given by teacher was LTV for car financing. It is not just Maths worksheets, so it is more fun. The Maths worksheets given out are generally quite easy. Hope you find this helpful.

Usually, all places for sports are already filled up by students who entered via DSA sports. Although there is sports trial, not many will be selected for the popular sports like table tennis, unless the DSA student did not accept the offer and there is still vacancy. The DSA students will start training in Nov and Dec, as the competition is in Jan/Feb. My son was selected during the sports trial. He was very happy as he was the only one selected. The joy turned to sadness after a year as he can only be the reserve player and till now, he has not played in the competition. During training sessions, they also focus on the those who will play. In sec school, the sports CCA select and train only school team.

    • RE: Renewal of Phillipine Passport

The work permit issued to the maid will only be until the Aug (expiry of passport). It us better to get the passport renewed then apply for the work permit. Else need to pay for everything again.

My maid worked for me for 10 years already. There was once we reviewed her work permit without checking her passport. The work permit issued was for last then 2 years , think it was one year only. Then We need to renew work permit again based on new passport and pay for another set of fees.

For renewal of passport, it was very easy. Don’t recall bringing all those.

My maid renewed her passport in SG by doing it at the Philippines Embassy. U can fix an appointment and bring all the required documents there. We didn't go through any agency. Then they will email you when passport is ready and you go there to collect. Takes 4-6 weeks I think. All the info on the website.

Home leave application can also be processed there. Save the agency fees. Use the fees to pay for the passport renewal fees for your maid instead.

Request for options regarding situation with maid.

Maid has been working with us for 1.5yrs. attitude good, works diligently .
But security camera shows her going out of house at midnight and back 2hrs later. when asked, she denied. when given proof, she says she went as her cousin brother working in Sg construction industry had lost purse and wanted food and some urgent cash. given food from house and her salary.
My mum ex-maid had this habit too. It seems it was a twice weekly affair on weekdays. The neighbor saw her leaving and informed my mum. We investigated and found that a van came to pick up the maids in the neighborhood and brought them to construction site for prostitution! If not, without public transport in the night, how they go out and come back speedily? We sent the maid back immediately.

      Dear all,

Have anyone tried before send your maid back hometown without complete their contract? The procedure is it purchase airticket 1st, cancel her work permit thru MOM online, then MOM will send me the maid exit letter. So on the departure day, just bring along the maid exit letter and airticket will do.

I'm so angry with my maid, now she try to be funny with me. Yesterday dinner can't be eaten, the veg is half cook and soup tasteless. Waste all the food. I ask her what happen, she told me that she can't get along with my mum. So she don't want to work with me already. I ask her, did ah ma scold you? She said no. So what's the problem she can't get along with my mum. She can't even explain why. Just keep telling me, She also don't know why she feel nervous and can't work. Keep forget things. I'm not willing to transfer her, feel like send her back home.
No need to wait for letter. Once cancelled, the immigration will know. I did once. Found that maid has many calls and SMS from men around the world. Egypt, India, SG, etc. altogether 20 + men. I bought air ticket online in the night and sent her to the airport the next morning.i only cancelled her work permit after she left as I have no time. But this means I had to pay for the ticket and even gave her a brand new Luggage bag that I got from the NATAS fair. Felt it was a better decision than to pass a problematic maid to another employer
