I think there were a few basic stuff which I looked at
Teacher to student ratio.
Cleanliness
No. of months licence. 24mths is the highest rating
Teacher qualifications
Depends if u like a house setup, i was worried abt the stairs.
Hence i choose a shophouse style where the school is on the ground floor.
Management, i would choose one where the boss is oso the person involved in the day to day operations as compared to an investor style system.
Hope it helps

RE: Criteria for a Good Childcare Centre
Mummy Wong:
i definately agreed with this. Many of the franchisers are funded by pple with deep pockets and left to run by external principals. By nature of this industry, job switching is a need to get a good pay increase.A childcare with the Boss or a good Centre Manager around is very important. I find that a centre with Boss around, teachers will be more hardworking. Unfortunately it's hard to find the Boss in Childcare now cos nowadays the operators are more of the investors.
As one of my sons in Pri 2 already I realised childcare centres which provide Hanyu Pinyin in K2 is good. There are some \"cheap\" centres did not teach.
hence when looking for a CC, i went hunting for \"home-cooked\" style. Found one run by an operator with her kids in the centre. -
RE: Preschool recommendations
Hi,
Any parents send their kid to Mindchamp in YCK?
Hi I did check them out when I was looking for a place for my 3 children 5 4 and 2
They are really new but din appeal to me much coz it was pretty quiet and in a industrial hub
Went searching around, found a couple on a hilltop and some in the thomson hills estate. All had their attractive parts.
I finally settled on one in a shophouse setting. Cosy and homely setting but what impressed me the most the operator had her own children there as well so i am assured that the quality of care and education got to be good.
also they had an external speech and drama teacher who conducts holiday drama programs at the SRT to come in every week at no extra cost.
I was sold… -
RE: [Ang Mo Kio/Bishan/Thomson/Toa Payoh] Preschools
Hi mummies, appreciate some feedback please! we’re currently looking at these play schools for our little one but they all seem rather decent. but of course we would like some opinions!
-carpe diem @ hilltop
-discovery garden @ hilltop
-nobleland arts and learning @ thomson
my 3 little ones are attending a childcare/preschool at a shophouse setting along upper thomason.
they have their own speech and drama facilitator which some parents say he conducts classes at SRT for quite a large fee.
you can PM me for the details. -
RE: Any recommendations for intensive phonics
my 3 kids attend this childcare centre at Upper Thomson where they have a segment every week on phonics. My 2nd youngest at 4 can read really well now as compared to when he started and was totally clueless.
you can pm me if you need more info -
RE: Criteria for a Good Childcare Centre
Hihi I was like you previously, choosing the most convenient cc at my office. It was also heavily subsidised. But as u said, the Ps keep changing and my kids did not seem to be doing much.
I think being new is no excuse for a poor curriculum.
I know of new startups - non big brands that actually do way better.
U might wanna speak to the P of the school or hunt around for an alternative.
My believe for my kids is that early education is super impt in building a confident child -
RE: Parent & toddler weekend enrichment class
I think it would be tough looking for a pure montessori enrichment weekend class. Why not consider an integrated learning for your child?
