      Hi Snow24,

If your child doesnt like to eat all these, why not try to cook the veg and blend them? If not, you may wish to cook soup and just give him the soup so that he can get all the nutrients.

      Just some ideas.

      Hi Simply00123,

Does your child have anxiety issues? My child was more of the quiet type without much to contribute, also because his IQ was not too high too.

When I sent him for brain training in P5 to improve his grades, his ability to communicate did improve and he started to contribute to our family discussions which was a pleasant surprise for my husband and I.

      Hi phy09,

My son was a slow learner and was very slow in learning. Even at P5, he was extremely soft spoken. At the recommendation of a friend, I took him for brain training. He opened up more and started to speak more. For PSLE, he was posted to NA stream. With brain training and the hard work everyone put in, I would say our hard work has reaped returns.

    • RE: Settlement of HDB loan

Hi everyone, I have a loan of $400k with a bank and loan interest is at 1.25%. As compared to CPF’s interest at 2.5%, I think I am better off not repaying the loan with my cpf!

As for those who are don’t invest, or are borrowing loan from HDB, I thought you may be better off repating your loan. Just my thoughts.

      atrecord:
I just heard from my son that most of the food stalls in the school canteen had raised the prices this year, some by as much as 30% (from $1 to $1.30).

Today's Straits Times has an article on food sold in school canteens and it was reported that many of the stalls face issue of high rentals, and are asking for help.

      I'm wondering whether it's a case of the stalls had been suffering (hopefully not losing $$) previously as they were not allowed to raise prices (gradually), and so took the opportunity now to 'make up' for it;

      or

that they had always been given the freedom to set their prices, and this is just another way for them to boost their bottom line.

Apparently the (only) stall that didn't raise the prices has super long queues every day.

Would the school be able to shed some light on this please?
Hi atrecord, schools do monitor the prices of the food sold but as the prices of food is high now, I think it is inevitable food gets more expensive in canteens as well. My nieces are spending like $3-$4 for food at another school's canteen daily. What I do for my child is to pack food for them. They only buy their own food twice weekly.

    • RE: All About Full-Time Maids

I agree with Marco. Having 3 maids has taught me that it is not necessary to ‘over-splurge’ on them because they do not attach too much emotions to the family. Basic respect, trust is necessary. I treat them how I would like my boss to treat me. So, it is employer-employee relationship.

    • RE: Helping a child to concentrate

My girl had difficulty reading and writing. She is in K2 now and last year, I had to literally draw the spelling words to make them remember these words, e.g. eyes, mouth even after starting them on phonics lesson. At the end of the year, I met the teachers at PCF and the Chinese teacher even showed me her half done Chinese Workbook.

This year, she is better. Even her phonics teacher commented that she is learning faster now, so I must give credits to the brain training she has received from beginning of the year from which I found out that she has attention deficit.

In any case, for parents who are interested to find out, just pm me. I am happy to share.

Uploading my innovative ideas to help my child learn spelling. Now I do not need this technique anymore because my girl is picking up words quite fast.

Haha! I burst out laughing when I read all your comments. First of all, my girl is not able to write letters of the alphabet and 1-10. She is behind her peers in her K1 CC and as a mother, I have to coach her at home. She knly writes each letter for 4 times and I only make her write 5-6 letters and 3 numbers at night. I think I am quite lenient to her.

Giving her chocolate works so far and I have managed to prolong the reward till the next day so she does not need immediate gratification. I envy those parents who do not have to cane their children because 我已经软硬兼施。

Hi lee_yi! Your daughter sounds like mine. She cries and complains of ache here n there when it is writing time and she is only 4! Now I have to resort to immediate reward of some chocolate after she completes each line to motivate her. So far, it is working.
