@slmkhoo I totally agree with Integer—you have been one of the most helpful forum members. You always express your thoughts so clearly, and I am sure many have benefited from what you’ve shared over the years.

Thank you! I do regret that I didn’t archive some of the posts I wrote over the years on the various topics and the exchanges with various other members. Oh well, too bad.

Guess no one could expect the migration results. Unlikely for one to archive one’s posts. But I can understand your “sayangness”, cause some of your posts were lengthy with a lot of helpful advice. Mine were just chit chats, so not so “wasted” like yours.

I just did a search for all my posts, and now there are posts back to 2011, which is about when I joined! Over 1600 pages of posts! When I have time (no idea when that will be!), I must look through them and archive some!

      hi slmkhoo,
How do you go about archiving? Does it mean copying and pasting the posts into a document? If so, it sounds like a pretty slow and tedious process.

Haven’t thought about the mechanics of it yet! I just thought it would be something worth doing? Still got 2 projects I’m working on that will take a fair bit of my energy for the next few weeks (hopefully not longer). I wonder if anyone has better ideas for archiving past posts?

I’m actually going on vacation tonight for a week in Inner Mongolia(!), and the responses I’ve been waiting for in one of the projects have just started coming in, after I’ve been chasing for about 2-3 months! Well, I’ve told them they have to wait till I get back for me to proceed.

Inner Mongolia! wow … share more with us when u are back!
U DIY or with a grp tour , private tour?
nowadays, quite a number of people do private tour ie get guide/cum driver from social media/tiktok ,instagram, contact thru we chat and go to china n meet the guide… i wonder how good and how “safe”

@MyPillow I asked too, but she says it mostly about O level papers - some of us are past that!
Please don’t go elsewhere - if enough “oldies” hang on here, maybe we can attract more old and new members to come and hang out here too!

Ok Will try to reconnect back

@bbbay said in Singapore universities historical IGP/RP by courses:

I find this YouTube channel informative. 2 Chinese speaking YouTubers giving in depth analysis on Spore’s universities landscape. I think their target audiences are PRC intending to study in Spore Uni.

I find their analysis well structured. Some of the topics they talk about are

      • comparing the NUS/NTU/SMU
      • top 5 easiest/toughest majors to study
      • top 5 easiest/toughest courses to apply
      • why SMU is popular locally yet low in international ranking
      • what is Yale-NUS
      • what is NUS College

We local can learn something from this channel too

      https://youtube.com/channel/UClUkqKsBM2voJNuT3uUu0gw?feature=shared

Thanks for this sharing ! Now better understanding abt why ntu low cut off point , losing shine
seem that there are alot of private corp support. Both nus n smu are 4 yrs biz course . My kid is in smu , enjoy the study but it’s also very competitive for the course. in uni grp work is a good live practical working skills , no complain, everyone do their part and want to do well . I find the time table not really packed , allow time for project grp work .

@lee_yl I thought their facial ID database is so extensive/reliable/accurate that some train stations use it at their gantries for passengers to enter/pay?

i did not hear my dh said this face recognition in metro fr the last two trips to Xi’an city this yr. he took metro back to city hotel fr office.

i also think any city ,try not to wander out late night. usually w are back to hotel around 10pm+ , my trips were usually in winter, actually abt 8pm+ it is alreay bitter cold. But now my boy is big , i dun think he willing to go back hotel that early, unless they want to play games.

@lee_yl thank u! Will ask DS to research on those. He is aiming for Pure History next year cos he is heavily into WWI and II history, as well as European history. If there’s historical significance i’m sure he will want to drop by. We are not really into architecture side of things. Munich i am willing to bring him there because i can have some scenic day trips for hiking.

I think pure History covers more into sg/ msia n region .whereas Elective History covers Eu war eg holocaust , Korea war etc more interesting.
I m not history buff too , but my trip to Rome, Florence last yr changed my view. It is history alive ! all the old era mankind is full of wisdom n intelligence , the way the architecture was done / built . That made me has interest in the next thousand yrs stuff 兵马勇.i just wanna see n at least gain some knowledge 😛

      @MyPillow

DH has been to Xi An and he likes it because he is someone who likes historical stuff. One can get to see 兵马俑 (probably not my cup of tea!), the Han tombs, and even visit 华山

I have heard of someone being cheated by posts from XHS. Paid the “tour guide” deposit for hotel/transport but when reach China, couldn’t find that person-in-charge. Good reviews can be fake.
      So do be careful !!

Yep, those on xhs, TikT post not always true .though China is generally safe according to dh, he said it is quite safe for a solo female to wander in Xi’an city with the public transport in day time . but for tour either do yourself , take train then get cabby thru the transport App or get hotel for day trip , too many scam out there n we are unsure are the drivers safe or not by those small online trips etc . Those day trips fr sg site are alright

@MyPillow We drove when we went for our Kyoto & Osaka trip few years back and again last year when we went Kyushu. For Kyushu we did not insist on snow tyres but for Kyoto we insisted. We arranged and paid for snow tyres but when we picked up the car they said they do not provide snow tyres and we had to drive to one of their workshops to have it fixed. That wasted almost 1/2 of our day on the day we arrived. Our trip was from early December to right before Xmas. I remember our cars covered in snow but most of the cities or towns, the roads are clear. Only when we drove to the more remote areas or mountains then we encountered snow on the roads.
It is not that difficult to navigate in Japan with their GPS and google map.

      Thks for the info !
Which part Kyoto or Osaka snowed? I did not see any snow when I went few yrs ago .

Do u enter phone or map code . Can share how to get map code for some area, can it be found easily on line? Esp those attractions with no tel number ?
