RE: Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)
Dear all
Are there any seniors selling their Enriched Math textbook, Mathematics Book 1, 7th edition for Year 1 (reasonably 'clean' condition)? My boy has lost his book (he cannot remember where he has left it), in just 5 weeks. Sigh. :slapshead:
Please pm me if you are interested in selling at a used-book price. Thank you. Thank you. -

As always, breezy, your prompt reply is much much appreciated. :please:

RE: Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)
breezy:
Thank you breezy for your detailed explanation on the RSP.Hi to all parents of Yr 1 boys!
RE: RSP Programme
Every year, the school takes in up to 20 year 1 boys for this programme. The other schools running this programme are: RI, VS, RGS & Cedar Girls. Each school around 20 scholars per intake.
To be considered for the programme, the student's PSLE T-Score has to be 250 or above (doesnt matter if you are from \"O\"-level or IP track). Besides filling in a form and doing a small writeup, there is an interview.
Each RSP Scholar will be granted $2,400 per annum off school fees (ie. parents only pay $145 per month instead of $345) and an allowance of $1000 (of which part of it, usually around $700, will be used to fund a compulsory overseas trip every year for the RSP scholars.) Do note that, however, if your son is already on EESIS, the $2,400 grant off school fees will not apply from this scholarship.
To be on this programme, the student has to take Malay Special Program (MSP) as a 3rd language (3-hour lesson per week conducted in school after curriculum time) and around 10 sessions of Understanding South East Asia (USEA) component every year (2-3 hour lesson per week conducted in school after curriculum time, field trips inclusive).
RSP scholars are also expected to attend seminars/experience exchange programmes with scholars from the other 4 schools twice a year - usually in june & November.
If there is a clash between CCA timings and RSP lessons, RSP lessons take priority. Most students have to settle the clashes or change CCA.
The USEA component requires the scholar to submit a research project + presentation (Yr 1-3 in group of 2/3 and Yr 4 alone) every year. Marks given for this project will be reflected on RSP report card but will not affect the students' overall grade with the other academic subjects.
The MSP component requires the scholar to sit for \"O-level\" MSP exam at the end of yr 4. Tests/exam results for every term will be taken as 1 subject for the school report card.
Hope this helps in your decision making!
DH went for the talks on Friday and came back 'blur'. :scared:
Thus we could not decide whether it is a good idea to take the programme.
Also we are still trying to find out what the writeup is about...
Any parents whose DS's are in the programme are able to tell us about managing the MSP?
Thank you. -

Hi thebusybee,
thanks for your long reply and encouragement! Let's pray for one another to have some baby dust!
In one of my earlier posts, I mentioned I had two miscarriages last year. I never imagined that will happen to me because I conceived my daughter easily.........pregnancy was really smooth too. But after I had my dd,I underwent a lot of stresses which is why we didnt try for a 2nd child earlier. Among the many things,
1) Job stress
2) dh job was unstable
3)marriage was very rocky
4) relationship with in-laws was really bad
5) Child kept on falling sick
Well, I made some career changes in the hope that I would be able to conceive. And then i found I had hyper-thyroid. Although that was subsequently cured, I ended with the two miscarriages.
My brother only has two kids (adopted) so our family is really small. She doesn't have many cousins to play with.
Am doing what you are doing too.........sending her off to enrichments to let her socialise more.
Some pp have been telling me that as an only child, our children will grow up feeing pressured because later on she will have to take care of us. Well, dh and I are doing all we can to ensure that we are self-sufficient financially so that she won't have that problem.[/quote]Really heartened that there is such a support group. I am in a similar family structure as kaitlynangelica. Small family, ds has only two girl cousins that he could interact with once a couple of weeks and nobody on dh's side of the family. So he clings to us.
I do feel that age is catching up on me (46) this year.... Sometimes I feel really really guilty when I am tired after work at the end of the day and I have not much energy left in me to play with him. :_( -

RE: Club Only Child Club
Hi everyone
I am new to the club. One ds age 12. I really felt v sad for the parents who lost their child in Sabah. I canβt imagine the pain they are going through. I donβt think that I can go on if anything is to happen to my only ds. :_(
