Does anyone have any feedback to share about J Carter?
My child is with Speech Academy and I am not impressed. Much of the negative feedback shared earlier in this thread is true. With a student: teacher ratio of 12:1, the lesson is rather didactic. The third week of the month is a dry run where each student takes turns to rehearse their speech for Week 4. So you can imagine how much air time each child is given in the entire duration. There are trial students almost every week and they seem to be given priority attention to coax the parents to sign up.
The reason why I sent my child to the class is because she is extremely shy and lack the confidence to speak up, but whenever I get a chance to ask the teacher about how she is doing, her feedback was primarily limited to "She is very shy. I really hope she can speak up more". I expect the teacher and SPeech Academy to have professional tactics to draw her out and make a difference in her.

RE: MPM Maths - Discussion
Any reviews of MPM Queenstown at Mei Ling Street? I stay at Tiong Bahru but the branch has closed down.
One of MPM’s spokesperson said that max teacher student ratio is 1:6 so as to give personalised attention to each child. She also shared they now follow MOE syllabus. I like how it is claimed to enable self-directed learning, but the part which I wasn’t very convinced about was how different is their teaching methodology from primary schools to achieve the so-called superior results. She said MPM uses manipulatives extensively, but primary schools also use that.
For those with experience of MPM, care to share? -

Congrats to all who got in! Welcome to the ALPS family! Hope those who didn’t make it can get into an acceptable second choice school.

APS 1km SC balloting....
Any idea how many SC within 1km for Alexandra? -
RE: Alexandra Primary
You should stand a good chance even if <1km goes into balloting at Phase 2C. The "good" thing is ALPs is relatively new and doesn’t have a PV scheme for prospective parents, so uptake up to Phase 2B still leaves a good number of available vacancies for Phase 2C.

Kittypie, if school bus pick-up time is 620am, your child will have to wake up before 6am. Just to share the experience of my DD who is in P1, waking her up is a struggle each morning even though I put her to bed at 9pm. And I empathise with her sleep deficit. I can’t imagine how she is going to be even more tired next time when school work, tests and exam stress build up.

RE: Alexandra Primary
There is a student care centre based at ALPS, so if your child gets into that one he/ she can seamlessly hop over after school. I have a friend whose son is there, and he says it is boring.
Near to ALPS there is a newly opened student care centre called Canopy. Programme is quite good, in my humble opinion. -
