To add on, I don't envy other parents who have 2 kids or more. I would think: \"Lucky I only have one\" and I am truly happy I have just one who is very very close and dear to me

RE: Club Only Child Club
Hello all,
Me too, very happy to have found this club!
My only daughter is 6 yrs old, going to primary one next year!
I choose not to have second one because I don’t prefer to have more children. I think one is enough.
For the past 6 yrs, I didn’t even try to conceive at all despite relatives and strangers asking and saying I should have one more.
I had a tough time during my girl’s infancy due to post-natal depression, panic attack and conflict with MIL.
I am really scared to have one more baby.
I am so glad my girl is big now and going to P1! I am gaining back my "me" time (tea, reading, shopping, travelling, movie, etc). Everything is much easier now as my girl is getting bigger. I am very thankful that she is a very well behaved child. She is very understanding and has no tantrum. She is much matured than those of the same age as her.
The drawbacks are, she is an introvert and therefore, shy and talk very softly. Not good in socialising.
I have been her main caregiver, taking care of her full time since she was 2 yrs old.
Our bonding is very strong and she will tell me she loves me very much everyday. She is very loving towards me.
We will play boardgames with her at home, just me, hubby and her. She loves playing boardgames.
I feel with one child, we can have quality life. If we were to have one more, financially will be stressful because I will have to take care by myself (I don’t believe in childcare centre) and can’t go to work. My time and attention will be given to my second child naturally because young baby needs much more attention and care. My daughter will be even lonelier because I can’t accompany her anymore. She will feel left out. Age gap is too big. Yes some say she can help to take care of her young sibling but she is going to primary school and her school work will get heavier and she will be busier. Having another young sibling will only add to the noise at home and she will be disturbed when she is trying to focus on her study.
She did mention she wants a sister recently. I told her the consequences and what she might expect. She just want me and her dad to play with her more often. Sometimes I need to do my own work and ask her to play by herself and she was quite reluctant. I want her to be more independent and not always asking us to play with her.
Just my personal opinion:
If the reason for having one more child is so that the first born child will have someone to play with, won’t be lonely, I think that is so wrong. If you want another child, the reason should be a good one such as you feel one child is not enough, you like to have more children at home, the more the merrier. One child doesn’t complete the family, your life is missing something etc. Not because you want to create a companionship for your first born. If yes, the second child is just a ‘playmate’ and ‘companion’. I think that is sad. Worst if after the second one arrived, you shift your love to the second one so much that your first one is neglected and everything become unfair. It happens.
I will be putting my daughter in student care next year so that I can return to work and she can have more friends to socialise with. Hopefully she will learn something and get better in her social skills. -

RE: Townsville Primary
Hi shopaholic,
Can I ask for your opinion?
I know you have 2 girls in Townsville but I guess they are not placed in the student care, right?
I am considering if I should enrol my girl in student care next year in P1. I have the option to either stay at home to take care of her or to go to work full time. If I were to work full time, of course it will be better financially but I am not sure if it will be better for my girl. I have been her main caregiver since birth.
I am not sure if it will be good or bad to enrol her in student care and spend almost 12 hours at school.
The good thing is there will be teachers to guide her on her homework. However, I am also worried about bullying, friendship problems, etc.
I really need some opinions from parents. Many thanks! -
RE: Townsville Primary
Hi,
Any parents with kids in their student care centre?
Pro-teach.
I am considering whether to put my girl there next year when she is P1.
How do they spend their time there after school?
Appreciate any advice.
Thanks

Yes they kind of use some hard-sell tactics to get you buy the most expensive studs and get the expensive solutions x 2!My experience with Bdazzle is that the staff will hardsell to get you buy the most expensive studs. Even when u only want the cheapest which is already almost $50 and is surgical stainless steel grade!! If you choose something less than the most ex studs, they will give u black face and very reluctantly proceed with the piercing. Keeps telling u that only the most ex one will ensure no infection.
I was quite worried that they may not pierce properly bc i din get the most ex studs Also when they teach me how to apply the solution, the staff was very rough with my gal's ears which were just pierced.
I was quite upset abt it and will not go back again for the amount i paid and service i received.
May be the staff get commissions when selling earrings. That's why not happy when we din get the most ex studs.
They will want u to get their solution which is quite ex too.
I went there because recommended by her classmate's mum. She said they are the professional one. -

my dd did her first piercing at bdazzle. wahpiang! cost me a bomb! almost $200. thot since is her first piercing better go to one with good reputation, good service. no problem for first 6 weeks.
But about 1-2 months later, developed infection in 1 ear after a school camp. probably touched with dirty hands. I took out the stud and let her ear heal. Thought maybe bdazzle will value its customer and offer a free pierce of 1 ear. No! You'll have to buy another expensive pair of studs for them to pierce.
In the end I went to a gold shop in AMK and got one side pierced for about $10 or so. Price includes a new pair of gold studs. Why did i pay $200 for the first piercing when I could have got it nicely done for less than $20?
Yes I agree. It costs me almost $200 too. Come to think of it, it was really too expensive for that pair of small studs.
What to do, what's done cannot be undone. Since it was her first piercing and I was quite worried if do at \"anyhow\" place, might get infection or something. Sigh. -
RE: Ear piercing
Just brought my 6 years old girl to do ear piercing at B*dazzle last week.
The earings I chose was the highest range 18k white gold with diamonds. Cost $178.
They pierced 2 ears at the same time. My girl was ok though she said pain but did not cry.
They provide free checking 1 week later and then 6 weeks later.
They are quite professional and my girl's ears recover very fast. After a few days her pierced holes are perfectly fine with no redness, itchiness or some sort.
However, I was quite shocked that they asked me to pay $196.80 because they included the solutions x 2 which cost $18.80. They did not inform me about this before hand.
Personally I feel their price is high and they should have given the solutions free of charge. But instead they \"forced\" me to buy 2 which they automatically put into the plastic bag already and just asked for payment.
Only after I asked why price is not $178 then they said I need to pay for the solutions too.
I only used the solution for my girl for a few days and now they are sitting there untouched. It's quite a waste of money, I think one bottle is enough.
So, this is my experience with B*dazzle. -

RE: Townsville Primary
Hi shopaholic,
I have a few questions, not sure if you can advise?
1. May I know if the school is selling school shoes and socks with school logo?
2. Do we need to buy them from the school?
3. How many sets of uniforms (uniform and PE attire respectively) do we need to buy?
4. We can choose to join CCA only from P2 onwards?
5. What is the start and end time of school hours from monday to friday?
6. Do you pack food for your kids or just let them buy from canteen? especially when in P1.
Sorry for so many questions!
