      Hi NotEducatedMan,

No, definitely no aircon for most school classrooms. This is an exception because of the former ITE building, which did not have fans. Am not sure about Malcolm Road campus, but I'd be very surprised if the classrooms were airconditioned.
Yes teacher-tutor is correct that not all secondary schools are airconditioned but l know that ACS is.
      Cheers!

Hi all new Sec 1 parents

Just wanted to share that l strongly encourage all parents to attend the Sec 1 Orientation Camp (last day). I can assure you that it will be a memorable and touching event that you will remember. The sight of your sons coming forward and having his badge being pinned on by his senior is wonderful. So, do make an effort to attend.
      Cheers.

Thanks, Shaber. I really hope parents of kids from different CCAs can share their experiences here. I don't think a website will give you the full picture of the involvement required.

For example, the Scouts I spoke to said they meet on alternate Saturdays only, which the website does not indicate. And Drama Club meets twice a week from 3-6pm (not till 530pm as listed on website) according to the tr-in-charge whom I spoke to in Nov 2013.

So, dear parents, please fill us in on the actual extent of involvement for your child's particular CCA. Thanks so much in advance and God bless you!
      Hi Teacher-Tutor
Yes you are correct. What is reflected on the website is usually not a true representation of what will/when the CCA will be carried out, especially for UG. There will be additional activities being conducted by student leaders and the timing could be quite off (e.g. activities starting at 1pm when the students are still having school till 2:30pm). They will require early release which l think does not do fairly well for them (missing lessons). I hope they will coordinate well this year in all their activities. My thoughts.

Hope someone can help me with questions regarding CCA.

For certain CCAs, there are several time slots/ days given e.g Scouts , badminton , guitar, track and field. Does it mean that the child enrolled in any of these CCA has to attend all the different days? DS has to attend Legion of Mary on one of the weekdays and I am just afraid that he'll end up with a CCA that is over demanding.

He is interested in badminton as that was his CCA in primary school. He is not in the school team though. Is it true that it is difficult to get into a sports CCA and most of them end up in uniformed gps?
      Hi Shaber
Reality about sport CCA is that you must be extremely good at that sport you are interested in (e.g. represent school) otherwise chances of getting into it is very slim. Many who are average or perhaps slightly above average may not get into the sport CCA. You have to be very careful in allocating your CCA choices. Some UG are equally competitive and hence if placed too low in your options, may result in not getting into that UG. No offence to those who truly interested in UG but yes most will end up in UG.

Hi All Parents of Sec 1 who has sons who joined NCC Land,

Understood that there is a camp this Fri to Sat. Wonder if you were told to buy some of the stuffs (mess tin, tommy stove, etc) on our own or to buy from school NCC or they will provide? Any idea if they were told that they need to wear their No 4 uniform?

If so, need to quickly search for a store selling all of these.

      Thanks

      Hi Newage,
I don't know whether or not you need to buy those stuff for NCC (Land) camp. For scout's camp, the letter from Scout CCA comes with a form for you to specify whether you want to buy these items or not.
In case NCC land does not have this form and you need to buy it yourself, I think you can get it from the Scout Headquarter at Bishan.

      Hi Dazzle
Sorry for the late response and thanks for the advice. Unfortunately the list from NCC is not as detail as that of scout's. Anyway, went down to Beach Road where all the camping stuffs could be found.
      Cheers!

      Hi All

Just to check if this Mon 14 Jan is a even week?

Can l also check that the week after March holidays (25 March 2013) , it is considered as odd (1) again rather than continuing onwards which should be even (taking the holidays into consideration)?

      Thks

Yes, should be even for Mon 14 Jan, u can see it reflected in the diary pg 92.

Likewise Yes again for after the March holidays, it should start from week 1 (odd) again, every term is 10 weeks as reflected in the diary pg 96.

Thanks did not check their diary so trying to monitor.

I have sent an email to the school and requesting the school to share the vacancies for each CCA. Then we will be in a better position to gauge our ds chances of getting in. Hopefully I can get a positive response.

      Thanks

Hi I think those who are shortlisted for sports would be told. My boy told me he was shortlisted but I did not ask him if he was told verbally or if there was a list. Same for his friend who was shortlisted for a different sport.

Perhaps you can email the CCA teacher in charge.

That's what my DS told me too. He was given a \"confirm\" in one sport and \"shortlisted\" for a few others. The teachers in charge just told him verbally but I think for those kids who have the attributes that a particular CCA is looking for, the teachers would have noted down their names. Hence, if those who are given \"confirm\" or \"shortlisted\" and put those CCA as one of their top choices, chances of getting in will be high.

      Hi Ksmama & Zekezachzoom
I have also heard some boys were told while others totally no mentioned at all. Does this mean that those who were not told at all do not have the potential in all the sport trials? Hence, for these boys, the selection are based on space availability only? Anyone has any idea on space availability for these sports? (e.g. badminton 10 pax, soccer 22 pax, rugy 15 pax, etc). Any idea when must the option be submitted?
      Regards
