    • RE: All About ABRSM Grades & Support

Hello parents, I am Ze Wei, and recently graduated from Dunman High School with straight As (including H2 Music) in the 2016 GCE A Level Examinations. I have looked through the many advertisements put up by other users of this forum, and urge you to delve deeper into the true qualifications of a teacher before engaging the ideal one for your child. Having been closely exposed to the music scene for numerous years, my eyes have widened to the countless teachers who have yet to attain a basic music degree (i.e. Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music) which I feel is the bare minimum required to teach a child music decently. I definitely do not doubt the intentions of these teachers, they probably are genuine in wanting to discover their students' interest in the fine arts, but I hope you would make the decision with knowledge about the background of the teacher you wish to engage.

Learning under private music teachers or music schools? Many music schools have well-established names across Singapore, but having personally applied to teach in some of these schools, it is appalling to know that many of these schools hire teachers with qualifications which I feel are really substandard. I personally studied under a well-established private music teacher from the age of 13, and attained my DipABRSM (2011), LRSM (2013) and FRSM (2015) (in layman terms, Diploma, Bachelors, Masters respectively), and even performed at a solo piano recital at the Esplanade Recital Studio in December 2015. Hence, whether you place more faith in the education provided by music schools or private schools, research still applies. Make sure you pay for what your child truly receives. Years of experience is definitely important, but one's qualifications are equally as important.

My motive here is to really look for students in the Intermediate to Advanced stages, and want to help them excel in music (and school too). Beginner students are also welcome to study with me.

      What do I offer?
      [*]Music Course for Beginners
[*]Piano Performance (Grade 1 - LRSM)
[*]Piano Theory (Grade 1 - 8): do contact me on this, I am an avid music composer and arranger, do refer to my website (link provided below) for my list of works
[*]Piano Accompaniment: do contact me on this, I have a vast experience accompanying different instruments (in particular, vln, vla, vc, db, fl, dizi) for numerous occasions (MEP examinations, masterclasses, performances, ABRSM graded examinations, DipABRSM Double Bass, etc.. )
      [*]Piano Tuning Services

      My qualifications
Fellowship of the Royal Schools of Music (Piano Performance), London, UK
Licentiate (with Distinction) of the Royal Schools of Music (Piano Performance), London, UK
Ze Wei in Recital 2015 in the Esplanade Recital Studio, Singapore
Ministry of Education Music Elective Scholarship (2015, 2016), Singapore

DipABRSM (both Piano Performance and Violin Performance), London, UK
Top in Cohort, Music Elective Programme, Dunman High School (2011, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16)
Music Director, Dunman High School String Orchestra (2015-2016)

I really want to inspire your child, and share with him/her my journey and my pasion for music.

    • RE: All About Choosing Piano Schools And Teachers

Good day to all parents and students! Should your child or yourself be interested in learning the piano, look no further, as I am really enthusiastic about sharing my passion for music with those who have the interest to start learning, or further their studies in this art-form. I was appointed the Music Director of the Dunman High School String Ensemble in 2015-16, and was awarded the Ministry of Education Music Elective Scholarship in 2015 and 2016. Having been part of the Music Elective Programme from 2011-16 (Dunman High School Integrated Programme), and achieving a Distinction (A) in H2 Music in the 2016 GCE A Level Examinations, as well as coming in top in the cohort in MEP all six years, I believe that I will be able to provide guidance to all current MEP students in their school or national examinations. (( PS: I also achieved Distinctions in H2 Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, so students reading these subjects in Secondary School or JC level may also approach me:D )) I am also extremely excited to work with all students working towards their graded music examinations, allowing them to find both joy and the Distinction in true music making.

In other achievements, I was awarded the Fellow of the Royal Schools of Music in Piano Performance in 2015 (The Fellowship of the Royal Schools of Music is equivalent to a Masters’ Degree or Postgraduate qualification under UK’s National Qualification Framework) and performed in the Esplanade Recital Studio in a solo piano recital later that year.

With over six years of experience accompanying violinists, violists, cellists, double bassists and dizi players in examinations and performances, and being a violinist (DipABRSM) myself who worked with piano accompanists, I believe that I will be able to serve as more than just a piano accompanist, but also guide the soloist in engaging in a musical dialogue with the accompanist. I am willing to learn accompanimental parts in short and work along possibly demanding timeframes, as I have experienced plenty of these in my six years in school 😓

The following is a brief description of my musical experiences and achievements thus far. Please feel free to contact me (hp: 91717796) should you have any queries, or if you wish to view the entirety of my curriculum vitae. Thank you!

Good day to all parents and students! Need a piano accompanist for your music performances or examinations? Urgently need the accompanist to learn the piece up in a short period of time? Unable to afford hefty fees for a piano accompanist? You have found the right person!!

As an experienced piano accompanist familiar with various genres of music and instrumentation, I am able to provide a musically thoughtful form of piano accompaniment at a reasonable rate. Furthermore, with a DipABRSM in violin myself, I understand fully the pains it takes to locate a decent piano accompanist at a reasonable price. I have to admit, even till the DipABRSM examination, my accompanist was unable to deliver a decent accompanimental performance. As a violinist, I can assure you that I will be able to serve as more than just a piano accompanist, but also aid in the musical direction and music making between violinist and pianist. By serving as a piano accompanist for over 6 years, and conducting string orchestras, I can affirm that I do possess better-than-average sight reading skills and will be able to learn up accompaniment pieces in a short time*. *This excludes performances of Diploma or equivalent standard, where more intricate communication on the interpretation of the piece is necessary.

Besides, should your child or yourself be interested in learning the piano, I am also willing to be a part of your child's foray into the music art-form or to further your child's understanding of music, in particular, Classical music. As a Fellow of the Royal Schools of Music, I will be able to guide music students up to DipABRSM standard or equivalent. All MEP students are welcome to approach me too, with my 6-year long MEP Integrated Programme experience back in Dunman High School. Feel free to contact me and I will be able to share my full curriculum vitae with you.

In addition, I have attained Distinctions (As) in the recent 2016 GCE A Level Examinations in H2 Music, H2 Chemistry, H2 Mathematics, and H2 Physics, and will be able to give my fullest advice and support to your child should he/she require assistance in their academic preparation towards examinations. Feel free to contact me:)
