yes,for my batch and previous batches,I graduated in 2012,all my classmates who got A2 and below were asked and made to drop HCL,only those with A1 for express chinese can continue with HCL,I'm not sure if there's any changes for future batches,but it's good to check with the school now if you're keen.Hope this helps!

No offense but as a recent graduate from that school I can really say that the 4 years spent in NCHS were the best years in my teenage life compared to primary school and JC. Of course everyone have different opinions and preferences to different types of schools, but I just hope to share some of my experiences:)


I got 254 for my PSLE,not good enough to enter tops schools like RGS and NYGH but could get into other decent schools like MGS,CCHMS,SCGS,St Nicks during my time. I chose to enrol into this school firstly because I’m living in the East so it’s practical to choose a school that is convenient for your child and secondly, coming from a SAP primary school,I naturally would want to continue my education in more "chinese" schools. St Nick’s is a SAP school for a very long time while NCHS wasn’t a SAP school at my time but I decided to put NCHS as my first choice as I really dislike the fact that some schools are opened to affiliations.No offense, but perhaps it would be a good point to consider when choosing a secondary school for your child. I personally think that students coming from non-affiliated schools should think carefully before enrolling into schools with affiliations bearing in mind that you will be studying with people who are getting was lower than you from an affiliated primary school while you worked so hard for PSLE to be sitting next to them.

Don’t get me wrong,it’s not to discourage anyone going to those schools,if you really like the school then why not?Just my thoughts…Regardless of which school you enter,you still have to work hard and rely on yourself and not the school or teachers.It is true that NCHS may not be as good as some established SAP schools but given its PSLE COP which has rised to 246 last year definitely shows that it has the potential for the coming years given that it was only accorded SAP status in 2012.For Chinese language in NCHS,yes,it is given much emphasis since its a SAP school with strong chinese culture hence the push by the school for students to get distinctions in chinese.I was a higher chinese student in NCHS and in the school,those who got A2 and below for chinese won’t be able to take HCL in sec 4 because the school wants to push everyone for an A1 for chinese,which would be very helpful for your L1R5 when entering a JC.Of course, NCHS is also good at other aspects like maths and sciences,performing arts etc.

Don't be dismayed. Your grades qualify you for some courses in NUS and NTU (don't know about the other local unis). Based on your grades of BBC/A (MTL at H1 can be used for computation if it brings your overall score up). Your UAS point is 78.75.

Based on last year's UAE Indicative Grade Profile (\"IGP\") for places offered at the 10th percentile, you qualify for quite a number of courses in NUS and NTU.

NUS:-
Nursing (CCC/B), Project & Facilities Management (BBC/B), Engineering (BBC/C), Bioengineering (BCC/B), Computer Engineering (BCC/B) and many more.

NTU:-
Bioengineering (BCC/D), Civil Engineering (CCC/D) and many more.

Please do your research (\"Google is your friend\"). However, the IGP may change based on performance and demand, depending upon how popular the courses are each year. However, it is still a good guide for you to base your decision on.

You don't need straight As to enter NUS or NTU unless you are going for the popular courses. Good luck.

Agreed with whizzard. You actually qualified for the University. There are about 8 choices for NUS and 5 choices for NTU. Rank your choices carefully. The Universities will consider all your choices, if you do not qualify for the 1st choice, you will be considered for the next choice. To cast your net wide, you should also try the other newer Universities and attend the Open Houses to find out more. As you did well in your GP and had taken H2 Mathematics and Sciences, your options are open to both Science and Technology and non-Science courses.

Thanks to everyone who gave me advices when I was at a loss upon receiving my less-than-desirable A level results,I did not have the opportunity to update you guys as promised due to work commitments so this is a late update,I've been offered NUS FASS and NTU Biological Sciences early April I will be accepting NUS's offer most probably.

As for those who are still waiting,I hope you guys will get your first choice eventually,don't give up,there's always hope and chance to appeal,I hope I'm a good example to everyone out there,guess there's still hope since my grades are much lousier than many of you guys.All the best!

Just to add on to this trend,I have a friend who scored around 75 points of her University Admission Score and hopes to apply to a course that requires around 77 points (according to the 10th percentile published),is there a chance for her to get it or worth trying?

And also,is having rank point above 75 considered a good or bad A level result?

I can attempt to answer this.

The truth is we will never know because we don't know what is the score for the 1st to the 9th percentile last year. The 10th percentile may be a BBB, but the 1st percentile could be a BBC or CCC for all we know. The absolute final cut-off is never known.

That being said, if you are very close to the 10th percentile cut-off of last year's cohort, you should be quite safe, but I can't guarantee 100% because you might just be that unlucky this year.

On a final note, if you really want something a lot, you need to fight for it and not give up. The worst thing to do is to close the door on yourself. Go for discretionary admission if you think you might be a borderline case and go for an interview. At least you have one more shot.

OO.. i make a mistake here. Should not be take 4H2 and drop to 3H2. It should be downgrade the weakest H2 to H1, i.e. from 4H2 to 3H2 and 1H1. You need three H2, one H1 subjects, General Paper (GP) and Project Work (PW) to apply to local university.

Absolutely nothing wrong:)I understand what you are mentioning by 4H2 dropping to 3H2.3H2+1H1 is the normal combination for almost all JC students:)4H2 is for those who are of high calibre and those who wish to have a higher chance of applying scholarship.

the more is not the merrier, taking more than one can cope will mean insufficient work on each H2 and result in poor grades in all 4 H2 subjects ....... and if any of the 4H2 is neglected from the beginning, might as well just begin it with 3H2 and do well in all of them, and maintain a good track record instead of dropping a subject in year 2[/quote]Oh I'm very sorry to have mistaken your words,erm yep,I agree with you very much.I have a senior who's in Temasek JC and she's now in JC2,she told me that in TJC,every JC1 have to take up 4H2 once they enter the school and they can only choose to drop subjects after their first internal exam.I think that this kind of system is kind or good and bad.Good because students can experience the difficulty level of coping with 4H2 subjects because some students really have that callibre but some neighbourhood JCs dont offer them.While it can be bad for students like me who are lazy and thinking of an easier way out.It can also affects the student's confidence just like how it affected my friend in TJC as she failed nearly three subjects in the beginning.So,thank you very much for your advice and highly likely I will take up the normal combination,3H2+1H1:)
