Hi.
By giving your dd EL tuition, will it give you peaceful sleep? Will it lighten your burden such that you can now concentrate on the other subjects?:)

RE: Revision techniques
Different subjects require different revision techniques.
You need to know what is required. Content based? Application?
You cannot read your notes over and over again blindly. Always study your notes with \" What?\", \"Why\", \"How\" in mind.
Ask your child to check with her teachers if there are past years papers to try.
Can her teachers print out the papers for the class to try?
Hope these help.
Have a good week ahead.:)

RE: North Vista Primary
hihi!
Polarbear has brought up a good point about parents changing mindsets and pespectives.
I don't think she is in anyway a \"LIBERATED\" (err.... by the way, this word is used wrongly here. ) Mum. She is still keeping her eye on her DD's progress and performances. Her expectations may not be the same as others. So, do not judge her by what she said in her post.
Honestly speaking, how many teachers and heads do send their children to their own working place? by doing so, will that shut eveyone's mouth? Do many spouses work in the same office as well? perhaps in the same line but not in the same working office.
Before we blame any teachers(yes, I don't deny the fact that are rotten apples in the crates,ie, some lousy teachers in the services.), we really need to check our own attitudes as parents too. Different parents have different parenting styles. Who are we to judge? Yes, we can learn form one another BUT please be NICE and POLITE.
Your cup of mocca may not be my cup of tea. So why must you insist that I try your mocca?
Be nice.
Voice out if you must BUT
listen to other voices too .:)
Have a good day everyone!:)
p/s:
Sorry to point out this out...the word\"liberated\" is not used correctly in this context.
Please check dictionary.

RE: North Vista Primary
Hi everyone!
just my two cents worth after reading all these…
At the end of the day, we want the best for our children( There is NO ABSOLUTE right or wrong in transferring children out of schools! it is a judgement call from us as parents.)
When we want the best for the children, we also need to ask ourselves the this question:
are we the best models for our children? by complaining about the school leaders, teachers etc in front of our children, are we doing more harm to the children? with such on-going negative feedbacks from their own parents, will these children be a negative force/influnence in their own class?ie, they go back to their classmates and pass on their negative views of the school etc.
On the issue of trained or untrained teachers:
EXPERIENCE come with trainings, experience breeds experience… don’t you agree? even cashiers at the supermarkets, promoters at the departmental stores need first hand experience to become better sales person?Look, even the professionals like doctors and lawyers do have to start somewhere. Teachers(trained or untrained) need experiences. So, do give these teachers a chance.
I think we should be thankful that there is such a system inplaced for those who are in keen in teaching to try out in schools first before committing themselves to the services. At least they can find out if teaching is really their cup of tea, if not, they can look for another job. You sure you want someone who is not keen in teaching to continue in this service to mould your child’s character?
Usually UNTRAINED teachers mean they are NOT YET TRAINED in classroom managments etc . It is not that they do not have the knowledge and content of the subjects. They do.
To sum up, there are no perfect systems, no perfect schools. Perhaps, there will be one one day… ie, only when WE are the PERFECT parents.
Maybe all the perfect parents should come together to start a perfect school with a perfect system, and get a team of perfect educational experts to teach the children. By the way, are we willing to pay the perfect price for the above mentioned? good quality and perferct good doesn’t come cheap!!!
have a good day! -

RE: Parent pays nearly $6,000 a month in tuition fees
Are we telling our children that MONEY can solve all problems?
MONEY buys quality homework, project work…etc
MONEY buys quality sleep…
Sounds like a good deal…?
I hope the tutor(s)who is/are helping the kids to do their homework is/are not ex- teachers…
I did encounter students who paid their classmates to do their homework.
Of course when the teachers found out these "homework business", these students were punished accordingly.
When there is a demand, there will always be a supply. -
RE: North Vista Primary
Hi everyone!
It seems like everyone is really concerned about the school's performance!!! :)(otherwise, we wouldn't be in this forum, right??)
Heard about the school's psle result... hopefully the school will work harder!
At the end of the day, WE(parents) are responsible for our children's learning as well.:)
To the parents of lower primary children, do make sure that good study habits are in place asap. It sounds easy BUt it takes time and effort. Trust me, it will pay off!
Good habits such as
1) Be in bed latest by 9.30pm.
2) All homework to be done by certain time. (not before bedtime! )
3)revise what have been taught for the day, especially for MATHS and CHINESE LANGUAGE.
4) FOR CHINESE LANGUAGE: Do ask your child to read the chapters in the text book aloud to you daily for 10 minutes.
5) Limit the time in front of TV/ Ipad/ Ipod/ computers. (**these will take up lots of brain power of your child! how do u expect them to work well/read well etc after playing?)
Cheers!
