atrecord:I guessed as much. Why?floppy:
These days, the army is a lot more civilised. The verbal abuse and drills are a fraction of what it was in the past, and physical abuse and mental torture are also no longer tolerated. Considering that 80% of the things done in the past would probably be subjected to court martial now, it's not that difficult for the boys to take it as it come. Besides, it's only 2 years whereas the older folks have to face it for 2.5 years!
Cos when I did my NS it was supposedly heaven c.f. to when my cousins (12-14 yr older than me) did theirs. My aunt said my cousins would cry when the booked out during the weekends… They were trained by the Israelis.
And when I heard my mates said what they had to ensure when they became BMT instructors (unlike me who got a tough posting), I was surprised. They said they had to ensure the recruits have min 8 hr sleep every night, and cannot do more than 20 push-ups… Enough said.
If within the 2.5 yr when i was in NS, the change was so marked, I'm sure in the 20+ yr since then, it would be much more obvious.
What's the result? … Sad to say, the outcome could possibly be a generation of more gu niang soldiers
I dare said the army made a man of us boys when we enlisted. I sure hope we can continue to say that of the younger generation.
tattoo is allowed. but upon entering they declare their tattoo.
Any new tattoo during the 2 yrs service will be charge
atrecord:Agree - best not to wear ear plugs during sleep. It's never advisable to use ear plugs when sleeping, no matter where you are.floppy:[quote=\"Jennifer\"]Elder boy intends to use ear plugs during sleeping IF he cant tahan the snoring of other platoon mates.
Is it advisable to wear ear plugs during sleeping?
I was thinking he is more likely to be dead tired to hear any snoring if any
You may not be able to hear fire drills or command to evacuate during real emergency situations. Snoring should really be the least of his concern.
Jennifer:I need to know check whether scented.for NS? is scented?Norbu:[quote=\"Jennifer\"]

My boy says this works for him.
1) certain areas mosquitoes seems extremely larger, and somehow most repellent don't work on those?
2) If is scented, it cannot be use? imagine, in field operation. enemy will able to smell the nice scent and you be dead.
same thing as why now they those polish the boots to shining. As it will reflect sunlight, and it will give away the soldier position.
