After looking at the pricing of the school bus. I have started training DS to take public bus since this year. πŸ†’

Tat wat I told hubby but he refuse to listen still insists DS take school bus...sigh!!!

I see many advantages taking public bus...train DS to be more independent, cheaper cost, less waiting time (waiting for sch bus could be an hour for some days when have extra lesson, could be even faster compare to fetching by car due to traffic condition), more flexibility (some day he could stay back a bit late to go library) πŸ˜‚

May I know if u ordered the latest version 2012 or 2011 version?

I ordered the 2011 version. My DS said this is correct, someone brought to school today to confirm with teacher. It is also much cheaper. πŸ˜‰

      Hi

I'm curious how do moe allocate students into gep schools? Is it solely by distance base? For example a hypothetical scenario;my nephew is in Sjij (father's old boy) but lives in sengkang, which gep school will he likely be posted to? Can he get into acsp since it's all boys school? Anyone staying in punggol/sengkang care to share which school your child posted to? Or is choice of school is by merit?
Let me make a guess. CHS?
Both are boy schools, both are mission schools. Both are about same distance from home.
Is ACS first choice? I think ACS and NYPS both demand more than supply.

    • RE: GEP 2012 - Screening & Selection

In the appeal form there are only 2 choices, if none fit they should post back to originally posted school, which is normally your 2nd or 3rd choices in original selection.

      Please note:
Deadline for submission: 29 Nov 2012
(Appeal outcome by 17 Dec 2012)

Is Corporation Primary a SAP school? Is it located at Jurong? Just curious the possible reasons they could get in nyps.

Got in GEP or got in NYPS? Corporation Pri a neighborhood Sch, nearest GEP centre is NHPS.

As puzzled as porcupine12trade. even all Pei Hwa students go to NYPS, including existing NYPS students, still 2 classes or 50 vacancies. Our distance is about 3.5 KM and could not get in. Are they a lot of SAPs school nearby? Really puzzled how is the posting decided?

I think similarity of originating school to the GEP centre should have higher priority over distance from home, else those who stay like Woodlands that are not near to any GEP centre will be at a very disadvantage.

During the GEP briefing, one of the NYPS teacher told me they have only 50 vacancies, not sure if that equate to 50 GEPpers from NYPS  I did not clarify.
Pei Hwa's GEPpers are enough to form 1 class if all go to NYPS :nailbite:
NYPS being the most popular centre, not all who select NYPS will be accepted

Yes, that's what they said. I think they have been overwhelmed by too many calls from parents!

Thanks, so I will just wait for them to acknowledge πŸ™‚

My understanding from the briefing was they will only contact those who did not submit the registration form after 2pm today.

      Just relax:
ACS GEP teachers do not believe in tuition for GEP students. They will encourage students to study on their own as the classroom interaction, teacher support, peer co-operation and study materials should be enough for a student to do well provided the student is disciplined in studies, does the projects well, reads widely, prepared to ask questions when does not know how to do a question, etc. GEP is already an enriched program which is what Learning Lab, Mind Stretcher, Tien Hsia etc. all claim to be. These provide \"enrichment\" so the logic is if you are enriched already in GEP then no need for such programs.

To me, tuition & enrichment are different. Tuition repeat what the school is teaching, enrichment teach something out of the school curriculum. If GEP programme is like enrichment, then really don’t need for enrichment outside anymore. :boogie:
