As for SJI junior I've read that it is affiliated to SJI but that there are at least 5 other schools that are also affiliated. That may make it difficult to get into SJI even with the affiliation handicap! So I am rethinking this one as well.

Actually not true. Doesn't matter if there is 1 or 2 or 5 affiliated primary schools to SJI. As long as the child (affiliated primary schools) can hit the min cut-off (SJI affiliation @ 238), ALL will be eligible to can enter SJI if they opt SJI as 1st choice. Any vacancies will then be opened to the rest (non-affiliation @ 245). Plus, it's also affiliated to Catholic Junior College.

Although Catholic High has only 1 affiliated primary school but the min affiliation is @ 240 (non-affiliation @ 249), which makes it slightly harder to get in thru affiliation. Maris Stellar affiliation @ 226, which is quite attractive, u can consider.

*note: abv min cut-off based on 2013/4 psle scores

Thanks lee_yl! That is sooo informative. I never thought of it that way...that the lower the cut off point the better for the kids to get into their affiliated school!....I was looking from the other perspective - low cut off point means the Secondary Sch is not so good.

I think you'v made a very good point especially since my ds is not exactly the kind who will excel academically...... he a bright boy but he is jut too playful and not focused....

My my....who would've known that PSLE performance is top secret here!
When I was googling about it I actually chanced upon a Parlamentary Reply!....

      http://www.moe.gov.sg/media/parliamenta ... -score.php

An MP actually posed the question to the Minister of Education to find out the answer to the Million Dollar question! ......and here I am...ignorant as ever, posing the same question here.. haha

Thank you all the same for the enlightening info! Much appreciated!

depend on how the Principal of each primary school, view it.

some school Principals do not mind letting public (outsiders) know how is their Psle performance like, so they put all the detail up on their school website, including # or percentage of Quality passes (A/A*) for each of the 4 subjects including Higher Mother Tongue to compare against National Average cohort, mean average score of P6 cohort, % of pupils go Secondary Express / Normal stream, etc)
Normally, these schools tend to do well at iPsle, so do not mind to publish results, openly for public to know.

However, there is yet another group of school Principals (P), that do not want public to know (better keep it hush, hush), as they view Psle performance results as : sensitive info, to release

for this group of P :
during beginning of the year (January), at Curriculum briefing time :-
P will flash one PowerPoint slide to (P5/ P6 pupils + parents) in the hall, inform them the detailed Psle performance of previous batch, momentarily.
After flashing this slide, P then quietly remove this important slide to prevent others, from viewing.
Some P even alerted parents & students that, \"please do not post or share this Psle detail at kiasu parents forum, as the info shared, is meant to be for within our own school internal usage, only\".

No wonder there is little info on this matter......secretive Ps!! Sigh.....

      Hi Notkiasuenuff,

Some schools publish their psle results and % students scoring above 250 or % of their students scoring A/A* (Quality Passes) as compared to the National Average. Take a look at their school websites if they provide such info.

You can also find out a lot of useful info from some of the relevant threads in this KSP forum ( like individual school threads or psle results threads):

      e.g.
      http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum ... 48&t=29025

If you are looking for boy schools, go for SJI Jnr, Catholic High or Maris Stellar, all are good schools with good affiliated secondary schools. Anderson Pri or Maha Bodhi as 2nd choice as they do not have affiliation to good secondarys (which i find is important to me as it takes off some pressure during psle). No choice then i will consider St Andrews or St Gabriel.

Zoom down and decide early, go and PV and move within 1km. Have a back-up plan as popular schools all need to ballot even within 1km.

      Hope this helps...

Hello again lee_yl..... that is another very good point! Affiliated Secondary School!! And your assessment/analysis of the few schools is most helpful! But I was advised not to even bother trying Catholic High because even within 1km there is ballotting! I can't risk moving to an area and not get into the school! It will be disasterous!

As for SJI junior I've read that it is affiliated to SJI but that there are at least 5 other schools that are also affiliated. That may make it difficult to get into SJI even with the affiliation handicap! So I am rethinking this one as well.

Ok. I am going to read the school's website to find out more!

Thank you very much once again!

Your advice to study how many % of children scoring above 250 is a very sound and good one!

May I know where I can find up to date information on that please? Thank you again!!

highly sensitive information like \"how many % of children scoring above 250\" : concerns the reputation and academic standard, & the quality of each primary school in Singapore.

to get this type of info : only Principal of the school has it.
you may approach Principal of that school you're interested in yourself, if their school website does not publish this sensitive info, openly.

Otherwise, you may approach P6 parents / students, studying in that school.

Beginning of each academic new year (January) :
during Parents meeting with Tr and P session for curriculum briefing, Principal normally flash one PowerPoint slide to P6 parents / pupils, explaining in detail how well their previous batch of P6 students had performed at Psle : including the % or the number of pupils that scored 250, 260 (if any), 270 (if any) & above, including the mean / average score of P6 cohort, during Psle performance of the previous, most recent batch of candidates.

That is when such highly sensitive info is then disclosed :
revealed to P6 students studying in that primary school, because they are going to prepare for Psle, in the coming entire year ahead.
These P6 pupils would want to know, how the previous batch of their peers, who are one year older than them, had performed.
Since they need to know, Principal will tell these P6 students, and their parents, as they have the right to know. So, reveal only to those pupils studying in that school.
But not disclosed to public, openly.

Besides P6 students, sometimes Principal may also disclose to P5 pupils, since Psle preparation actually start from P5, not P6.
      because P6 very short :
After June school holiday, Dsa interview begin for candidates who applied for Dsa, followed by school prelim exam starting in August, then Psle.

if you have friends' children studying P5 or P6 in those few schools you had named, may approach them, for info.

Hi all. I'm very new here (this is my first post). Can someone advise which school is better - Maris Stella, St Andrews, Anderson, St Gabriel, St Joseph and Maha Buddhi. Or perhaps someone can point me towards the way to search for the answer to my question? Is there a list of schools according to ranking for eg? Thank you!

      Hi,

I have friends who sent their sons to Maris Stellar, St Andrews and St Joseph. Can't advise for the rest.

The Maris Stellar mum compared her P2 son's tingxie list with 4-5 primary schools and was shocked that being a SAP school, her's was the easiest. She later complain to the sch VP. The 2 who sent their sons to St Andrews complaint sons being bullied in sch. This year, friend's son in SJI Jnr did very well for his psle and this mum told me SJI Jnr improved a lot after the new P took over after recently. You can try to get some feedback from your friends or relatives with children in those schools.

If possible, go for a primary school with affiliation to a good secondary sch. I won't purely look at the top psle score of that school but rather how many % of children scoring above 250. The schools you mentioned above are all over Singapore. Home distance is equally important, pls note, some of the schools above ballot even within 1km.

Thank you for that information lee-yl! It is most helpful. I had some concerns about St Andrews because when i checked around, it seemed that the school also have Normal stream. I understand that boy schools with Normal stream may be a bit more rowdy. Now that you tell me about the bullying, I suspect it may be true! My boy is so short and thin I think he'd be eaten alive in hostile environment!

I agree with you that distance is crucial. The school choices I've listed are the ones that I've either read about or heard from friends. We intend to decide on the school and then uproot ourselves and move near there partly because our place is getting too small. The timing to move coincides so just as well move to a place near school.

Your advice to study how many % of children scoring above 250 is a very sound and good one! May I know where I can find up to date information on that please? Thank you again!!
