Hi parents in the east, I would like to seek your views and advice here. Do you think these two schools are about the same standards or jyss is much better than evss as I have heard some negative feedback about evss.

Thanks mlsa0808, for the info! Didnt know that the schools are open for visit on weekdays too? Hence, not sure about Tampines Sec but based on the grey booklet, they do not offer much subjects and if you visit their website, you cant find much info either. School may look and feel new though, cos of the recent upgrade/reno. JY really sounds attractive from the way you described. As for ES, we often see students smoking around the void decks but then again, i think all schools have smokers. So, disciplinary aspects of the schools is abit concern here. What do you think?notsoks:
JY is one of the 22 secondary schools offering Computer Studies as an O level school-initiated electives. The school has other initiative like using mobile phone in class for e-Learning, currently rollout for Science only.
There is also a café run by students, whose parents are working, and have no where to go after school hour. From here, they learn how to run a business, accountings, teamwork, etc.
The school is also setting up an interactive learning wall with 4 big LED screens to keep students updated with the current news affair. This is to cater for students who hardly read newspaper at home.
There is also a small studio with different musical instruments for students to learn, play and relax after school hours.
All these are some of the non-core curriculums that attracted me.
Visited Tampines Secondary this afternoon. The school building and facilities are very new and nice. This school is one of my choice too. Any infor to share for this school?
You can walk in anytime between 8am to 5pm, Mon to Fri.
My friend is teaching at ES. According to him discipline is strict within the school. Out of the school, they cant control.
Hmm understand but school must make clear to students that so long as they are in school uniform, they represent the school. So must at least behave, and if school receives complaint from the public, school should take some actions against the students who misbehave in public. -

RE: Reason for appeal
Mum Needs Advice:
I happen to read this post so want to contribute that if a child has learning disorders, and has been posted with a school who does not support special learning needs like attention deficit Dyslexia or other learning disorder ( name the Mild SEN in PSLE Booklet given by MOE ) . Other reasons are for health
kidney problems and handicapped children.
read this extract from MOE PSLE booklet
Students with PD or mild SEN who are not posted to an appropriate-resourced school listed above may apply for a transfer. Such students should first report at the secondary school that they were posted to on the next working
day after the release of posting results, and apply for school transfer there. All applications must be accompanied with the relevant supporting documents, as follows:
a. PD - An assessment of the student’s condition and needs from a qualified medical professional. It should clearly describe the extent of disability (e.g. temporary, permanent) and the type of assistive
device that the child is currently using (e.g. wheelchair, crutches).
b. Mild SEN - A comprehensive report written by a relevant professional (e.g. psychologist, speech and language therapist). It should indicate the nature of the disability with supporting evidence for the
diagnosis and provide clear description of the student’s current functioning and limitations, together with recommendations for support and intervention. Other documents may include a school report from the student’s primary school providing additional background to his/her condition and any other
relevant documents. MOE will consider appeals for transfer to a school resourced to support mild SEN only if that school is included as one of the student’s original choice of secondary school.
Thanks for the info. Besides medical reasons, what other reasons are acceptable? Any idea?
