RE: School of Science and Technology
There are number of reasons for me to choose SST
1. The school cohort is small, about 200 student per intake, and each class is only about 25 students.
2. A lot of hands-on experience, in terms of projects and assignments. Students are exposed to working as a group, and many a times students have to learn to work with others.
3. There are many programmes (TDP - Talent development programme - Science, Maths, ICT, Media) for student to join, it is all up to the student.
4. The school is constantly learning and evolving, can see changes almost every year. Example next yer 2020, they introduce bermuda, before that my son wear long pants for 4yrs.
5. My son likes the school and he had lots of fun. His sister don’t mind joining SST, she was from MGPS.
6. You will be surprise there are quite a number of siblings studying at SST.
7. Lastly, distance plays a part, it is near our home and my office. -

My advise for the Mac book,is to get the extended warranty for the 4yrs. My son just finished his O level last month at SST and my girl (also in SST) is going Sec 3 next year. My son used Mac Book Air and my girl used Mac Book Pro. The Pro is faster and more powerful but heavier. My advise is to order the mac book as soon as possible, these mac books are customized so there is lead time. There are cases where sec 1 student started school without their mac book and only get it on the 2nd or worst case 3rd week of school. As for Microsoft office, it is not a must, most of the time the student use Google Classroom, a lot of work are done on the Mac book.

From past history, the typical number of applicants to SST is about 1000++ students, so is about 1200 to 1400. After the written test, it will down select to about 500++ students for selection camp, where students are group into groups of 5 to 6 students to perform a task with available material. The end result of the task is not important, the main objective is for the teachers, 2 or 3 per group to observe and assess the students interaction. SST focus a lot on critical thinking, creativity, confidence, teamwork and communications as there are many projects from Sec 1 to 3. Once you have passed the written test and get call up for selection camp the chances is high from the 500++ students, 200 will be offered a CO.

RE: School of Science and Technology
There have been changes in the last few years. My DS and DD took the written test in 2015 and 2017. Previously it was done centrally at Republic Poly, and the tests are called GAT (General Ability Test) and CRT (Comprehensive Reasoning Test). Both are generally IQ test, no calculation or anything related to Maths and Science. No preparation required.
Now with the new system, de-centralised and written test, there is not much past information.
Nevertheless, just relax and go with an open mind.
Both my kids are in SST now, Sec 2 and Sec 4.
