The English paper was indeed tougher than expected. Universally challenging for the boys across the level. Then again, the boys do need a wake-up call before the final push next year. CL2 wasn’t particularly hard nor easy.

I personally feel that SA2 is a good simulation of what is to come regardless of the subject. The Weighted Assessments are a less relevant. For example, they cannot use practical and team assignment results for Science to boost their grades in PSLE.

Phase 2B definitely. Better if you are residing <2km from the school. Historically no balloting. No guarentees though.

      Hi Lululu0922,

From my experience, I have not seen serious bullying cases so far. The school probably has one of the most established PTAs in Singapore. During pre-Covid19 days it is not uncommon for parents to be involved with many of the boys’ activities. The school’s ethos is built around nurturing young men to be of looking out for the last, the least and the lost. That is very common among the La Sallian Family of schools in Singapore. Its education is therefore more holistic than just getting good grades. However, the school has a strong alumni of many who have made their mark in society.

Most importantly, the boys seem very happy being in school.

      Hi Jolly Parents,

To the best of my understanding, the number of boys making the cut from SJIJ to SJI is about a quarter of the cohort; the cut off PSLE T-score being 238.

SJI sets aside places for a percentage of the boys coming in from feeder schools (SJIJ, DLSS, SAPS and SSS). Of course some of they boys may opt for different schools (e.g. RI or HCI) if they qualify. Some may opt for St Patrick’s which has a lower cut off T-score.

Primary 4 boys this year and younger will be transitioning into the new system where entry into a secondary school of your choice will be based on "Achievement Levels" or bands similar to the O’ Level format. So for instance, if a student scores 90 and above for any of his 4 subjects, he will get an AL score of 1 for that subject. 85 to 89 marks will render an AL score of 2. So the min number of points score one can get is 4. The maximum number of points is 32 (I believe there are 8 Achievement Levels).

Not too sure how this is going to affect the percentage of students coming in from feeder schools based on the new system. Got to wait and see from the experience of the first batch.

      Dear Subashini,

Firstly, the school’s charisma is based on Faith, Service and Community. It is about grooming kids to become young men for others. What you wish for your child to focus on is your own prerogative be it academia or sports.

if you so choose to send your son to a Catholic School, you have to accept that there will be prayers prayed in school and the Catholic ethos resonates in the environment. That being said, many non Catholics have passed through the halls of St Michael’s/SJIJ happily without feeling pressured to join the Faith. The Catholic faith teaches religious tolerance and dignity towards the human person.

Bullying occurs regardless of the school they belong to and because of various circumstances. From my understanding, the school prefers that the boys learn to resolve conflict among themselves as that is part of their growth as human persons. Where necessary, the educators will step in.

Do note that with little or no affiliation, you will likely be placed in phase 2C where balloting is necessary and entry into the school is not guaranteed.

      Hi Yewpeng,

If I am not wrong, Phase 2B is based on your affiliation to the same religious community or have supported the wider community in an official capacity. For him to get accepted into phase 2B so SJIJ, the following conditions need to be met:

      1. I believe the child has to be Singaporean
      2. He has to be raised a Catholic or if you or your spouse is a member of grassroots organisation.

Wish you well with your application to the school. So far my boy is certainly enjoying his time there making new friends and learning the La Sallian values. It also helps that the both staff and the parent support group play a significant part in the children’s development through many organised activities.

Just my personal opinion. The parent-teacher partnership is very strong in this school and more so in terms of pastoral care. The kids are encouraged to adopt Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People from Pri 1.

My kid is in P3 and so far, the experience have been very enjoyable and engaging for him. Wouldn’t say that the workload is particularly stressful but they do get stretched from time to time.

Perhaps they allocate a class for HCL folks plus some other students cos it would be easier for the HCL to stick together in one class I reckon. However, I believe that they will spread the non-HCL out in diff classes. That is my guess.

      Chew88:
Is there streaming at end of p2?

How does school decide which boys attend higher Chinese? Starts in p3?
I believe it is based on overall results and propensity to learn the subject. I guess the teachers may have some say in whom they pick.
