      Hi All,

If your DS was via DSA to HCI previously, could you kindly share your experience on the format of DSA test on English and Chinese. MCQ or Open-ended or both?

Next the group diagloue (interview) consist a panel of interviews for a group of students. If it is the latter, how do they assess on the student performance as it is just like debate, whoever is faster in answering will the lead the conversation and other students may not have the chance to add on if the first speaker cover the topic comprehensively.

      Please help

Is yours for mainstream or GE? If not wrong in the past for mainstream the interview is quite relaxing more like chi chat but GE ones are challenging, no debate , don't worry.

My DS was from GEP and went in HCI via DSA. He said the interview was relaxed, and not being pressed hard for his views.

My understanding is the school is looking for a \"good match\", student that sincerely wants to study in HCI.

I'm also staying under the same roof as my mil. And with maid all together, it is no joke. Three women deal with a kitchen is enough to create unhappiness! So when I'm not around she will walk into the kitchen to become the 'queen'. When she is in the kitchen I will 'siam' (go off). And then my poor maid will has to deal with her...

When DH is not around, she will compliant the dishes are not enough and soup is tasteless (\"bo be gao suo\" in hokkien). She will reject the soup we serve her, or sometimes walk up and go and cook another dish of her choice at dinner time. When DH is around, she will say the other way \"can eat, anything will do\".

And she ever said my kids ”没家教“ (no home education) just bcos they never acknowledge her once. Of course it was in front of me and not her son.

Mid last year, my maids went moonlighting one after after and I left with no maid for more than two months. My DS had surgery (long recovering with few weeks of MC leading to PSLE!) and my three kids were in PSLE (i have a triplet). I worked half day in the morning, rush back by noon, do all the chores, cook and attend to my kids for their PSLE preparation & exam. My mil still came and compliant about those maids that had left. I told mil 'I was tired' during these few months and suggested she stop talking abt the same issue and thinking to have her empathy. Her replied was \"你顾孩子辛苦是应该的!\". Her remark really \"piss me off\"...ever since then, I will do anything myself without her help if possible.

:hugs: 都过去了。 objectively, do u think your mil is plain nasty to you or just insensitive?

I always feel it this way - as dil, we should love/treat/serve them as if they are our mothers BUT cannot expect them to be as nice as our own mother.

I understand u are trying to console me 🙂 she is the type that 对人不对事, and she sees that 她可以'吃'我。So can be nasty to me n yet I cannot reburk.
      呀,这件事 都过去了。但以后还不是一样...所谓相见容易相处难。

They'll nvr acknowledge ur efforts. To me,so long she doesn't add salt onto wounds(keep criticising),i happy liao.

      I sympathise with you.

Actually it's not difficult to realise that most old people will want to impose their views on the younger ones and in the process create tension. In all likelihood as they age somemore they will find more fault with those around them. I see that happening to my grandmother, and hear the same from colleagues and friends...

I just hope that i will not end up doing the same thing when I'm old...

[/quote]When she want to be nasty to me, she will add 'needle into her words' or indirectly criticise u in front of others.
That event I mentioned above with her harsh remark, I felt tt is like add salt into my wound...unforgettable!

Yes, as my mil gets older, her children started to pamper her more n they give ways to her more. In return she can be pretty aggressive when she talks at times especially she want to 'win'.
I can understand how mil still shows love n demand attention frm yr sons bcos we are mother as well. But I dun buy the idea that these old folks act arrogant n use nasty words on their dil just because they are the elders. And by being not so nice to us, they still expect us to respect them.

She will go \"your XX son...\"
or say to DSs \"you are so XX...\"
or ask DSs \"are you XX?\" for nothing, or as start of conversation.

      :scared: :scared: xx= stupid?

    • RE: Secondary One Stress

      Fresco:
Secondary school life is a great transition from primary school. Students are no longer spoon fed and self study is expected from everyone. Good time management is the key to independent study and of course self discipline is crucial.

On top of the many subjects to learn with new topics and concepts to grasp and numerous project datelines to meet, they have to participate actively in CCA as well, taking up leadership roles etc...and not forgetting the long hours in school, it is no wonder the child becomes overwhelmed. It is also a time whereby the students learn to survive with little sleep as they struggle to complete daily assignments and projects. It is a period every secondary one child must come to terms with.

By sec two, they should have adjusted to the school curriculum and live up to the expectations of secondary academia. It takes hard work, good discipline and also words and words of encouragement from parents. Be there for them when the stress level hits high. Help build confidence in them and show that we believe in them. It is love in action.

My son is studying in an IP school. He is one tired and yes, stressed boy too. He gets up from 5 to 5.15 every morning and leaves the house by 5.45am. On days he has no CCAs or meetings with the teachers, he will be home by 3pm. On CCA days, he will be back by 6.30 to 7pm. On days that he learns 3rd language, he will be home by 8.30pm. Sometimes, he is so tired that he has no appetite to eat dinner for that day. He has numerous projects in the pipeline and is always working at his laptop, after completing his homework. Besides, learning stuff in the sec 1 syllables, topics for Sec 3/4 are also covered for Maths and Science. He is learning Sec two history instead of the Sec 1 syllables. Self study and advanced reading up is expected from every student. Time for revision is really limited, not even during the weekends as he will be working on another of his school project. There is hardly any time for recreational activities. It is indeed very overwhelming and frustrating for him and the stress is evident. To be honest, he has lost weight. Overwork but under rest. All work but no play does make my boy a dull boy.

That's why parents should do all we can to help lighten the burden and relieve the stress of our kids. Proper nutrition is good to begin with followed by activities our kids can do to help them to de stress. Also teach them that success is not how much one has achieved and accomplished in life but by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed. As such, our children learn good problem solving skills, take responsibility and be accountable for their own actions. With these traits, this will see them far into adulthood.

Just curious, which IP school is your DS in? My DS is also in IP. DS has lost much weight too 😞 After the long tired hours at school, he hardly want to do any revision at home other than completing his assessments!
