For my DS1 DSA, RI required us to key in P4 result in the online application. However, for most GEPPer parents that I know of, we are not too worried of it as it is really a year of adjustment. I find P4 as a year of lots of adjustment and adaptation, P5 as a busy year, P6 as surprisingly easy (DS thinks it is boring after mid year exam to PSLE as it is just drilling the PSLE answering skill)

My DSs are not strong in Chinese, hardly speak. They continue to take HCL and I think the lessons help their CL result. For P4 and P5, only HCL result is reflected in the report book. Their Chinese teachers often require them to do the GEB CL exam paper after their main exam so as to know their own standard. My DSs can score quite well for the CL paper, average (70 to 79) for HCL. In P6, they have to sit for both CL and HCL papers and the report book will show both result.


For DSA purpose, RI requires P4 & P5 end of year overall results (Mother tongue without differentiating CL or HCL) and P6 mid year results (SA1 + CA1) (in this case HCL students will put their CL result since they took the exam too). For HCI (P5 and P6 results) and NUS High (P4, P5 and P6 results), there are boxes for you to fill results for CL and HCL (if applicable). To me, P6 mid year result is the most important result for DSA and am happy that they have the CL result to help instead of just HCL. Hope this information helps.

I think the serial number is by school alphabet. My boys were from a school starting with ‘A’ and their serial number is single digit and 2 digits.

There are about 25 students in each GEP class.
They have benefited from the program and I think they would be very bored if they have stayed in MS

4 years ago, when DS1 received the big envelop, we did not know much about GEP. During the week after receiving the offer, I came to kiasuparents and any other websites to get as much information and opinion as possible. As parents, we shared and explained to DS1 all the information we gathered. All of us, including DS1, decided to give it a try. We told him the GEP exam and tests will not be as easy as it used to be, that he is not likely to top any subject anymore, that we are not expecting high marks, he just need to enjoy the program and do his best.

In my opinion, P4 is the toughest. Scores range was 70s-80s, occasionally can get 90s for his favourite subject like Maths. P5 was ok, P6 was a breeze. The best thing about GEP is that they are being exposed to a variety of areas as described in Lock’s post. At the end, I see DS1 becoming a more mature, sensible and independent boy. Do not worry too much if your child did not do so well in P4, just try to obtain "GEP pass" of 70% as DSA to secondary school focus more on P5 and P6 results, most importantly P6 mid year exam. DS1 enjoyed the 3 years.

Last year, DS2 came back with the envelop too. I was more worried about him as he is a perfectionist. However, he was determined to accept GEP and claimed that he understand that he most probably will not top any subject anymore. Even with this understanding, he was in tears when he could not attain 70% pass in the past year exam paper practices (for his favourite subject) given by his teachers during mid year exam. We comforted him and he calmed himself down for the actual exam. His overall scores are in the 70s-80s too. He has grown and is now able to accept that everyone has their own strength and weaknesses. This is character building! He is happy in GEP.

To all parents, do believe that your children are strong. Do not put your own fear of failure on them. They do not have much fear for failure at this moment as they have not tasted failure yet. Let them try GEP and if they really failed some test or practice papers, is a good place to learn how to cope with failure as most GEP teachers have time to help them (only 25 in a class).

I think RI is looking for some X-factor in the student.

In my ds school (GEP), there is student who has 82% but only receive WL and a student with 79% with outstanding CCA receive CO. Seems like SA1 84% and above then high chance of receiving CO. A handful got rejected, quite a number on WL. There are only 300+ P6 GEP boys and RI has 450 vacancies, some never DSA RI but opt for other schools like HCI and NUS High. Hence I think they keep quite a big number for s1 posting even though they may not offer many MS DSA seat. So still has good chance to enter RI if do well in PSLE. Jiayu.

we were told during the preview (tea session) at NUS High today that there were 1853 DSA applicants, offered CO to 152 and a handful of WL.
