      hi,

My gal's in P6 thinking of NYGH next yr. Wonder if it is really $ here, $ there (as indicated by someone in this forum) ? are the students mainly from the rich families?
How big is the class size ? Is the structure similar to HCI ie. GEP and AMOPS platinum in one group? Saw in Duman High forum that sec 1 got 2 special classes (GEP and top PSLE scorers) that have smaller class size ? Malay is compulsory for sec 1 and 2 ? Normal school days end abt what time and Girl guides CCA - how many times per week ?
      thanks.
Hello, I'm quite new in NYGH, Sec 1 this year, but it's not really $$ everywhere, and most of the students are NOT from rich families.

The class sizes in Sec 1 are about 33-34 students. AEP (art elective programme) and HMP (Higher music programme) have about 32 students. The SBGE classes (School-based Gifted Education) have about 27/28 students. For NYGH, there are 4 SBGE classes, and they are mostly grouped based on PSLE results. I am in SBGE though, so I can safely say that the courses are not really different from the normal classes, except we get extra worksheets and for the Student Initiated Assessment, our guidelines are a little more restrictive.

Malay is not compulsory for Sec 1 and 2s. It is optional, on Wednesday after school from 2 to 5.30pm. I heard that Malay is not a difficult 3rd Language and it helps to pull up your MSG if you get an A1. If you don't however, it will not be counted in your grades. The same goes for French , Japanese and German, although they are not conducted in school but at 3rd Language centers at Ghim Moh or Bishan.

Normal school days start at 7.30am, but on Mondays, the school starts at 8.30am. School ends on 2.05pm on Monday, 2.15pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 1.25 on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Girl Guides CCAs are conducted on Fridays (currently) and once a week for Sec 1 and 2s, and twice a week for upper sec, although, my friend who is in Guides told me that they have to meet on Saturdays (sometimes) for certain events.

      Hope it helps šŸ˜„
