My DD is using My Pals workbook and homework book. She brings back these 2 books at random for homework. There is no test for her so far, but will have SA1 and SA2 in term 2 & term 4. Progress reports to be given for term 1 & term 3.

Doing homework can be interesting, not a chore, if the child enjoys it. (sorry, not hao lian har) as learning is a lifelong journey, we just have to make the best out of it.

By spending 15- 20 mins a day set the child into the daily work routine and once they enter P3 (honeymoon period is over), the workload will be more. And of course, my DD still have time for her computer games (limit to 20 mins) and some silly games we play with her (eg: wrestling with DH)

What is that homework book about? Izit teacher give math question and do it in exercise book? I find my ds school only using my pal workbook like not enough, so i give some assessment book to do. His sch only have SA2, and today juz got notification about another math topical test 2days aft cny break.

So far there isnt any english test, im wondering what they would be tested as the stellar worksht look quite simple. Currently their sch have science period where they do investigative and reporting work, they will be assess and graded but not included in Sa2.

It is MY PALS homework book - just like another workbook, more like reinforcement for the topics covered. And i just realised that the workbook 1A got Part 1 and Part 2. That means total there will be 4 workbooks for the whole year. Now i understand why the FT said there are so many books to complete...

And yr child's school having science lesson, must be very interesting, hope yr darling has a good time learning :love:

my DD has a jotter bk in her bag where she pasted a list of all the high frequency words/ vocabulary/ nouns/ verbs/ sight words etc for every story that they cover in class. According to her, teacher let them go thru' the list when they need to write short sentences (in their own words) on what they have understood fr the story.

Is that neighbourhood sch in yr area a new building? Cos some primary schools were demolished and merged with other schools due to low take-in rate and some schools shifted. Some schools have upgrading program within site whereas some have holding school in another location and this arrangement can be up to 2 years before the children move back to it's original location.

So if you have a school near yr hse doesn't mean the sch will be there forever lor

i used to stay around Redhill area and the few primary schools that merged/ shifted are: Gan Eng Seng Pri - moved a few times and now merged with other schools; River Valley Pri - moved but new sch is just another turn down the road; ZhangDe Pri - moved and merged with other schs; New Town Pri - moved a few times and merged with other schools, now new building is just about 1 year old.

They also said that it is not good to have a lot of home work. They encourage parents to let kids read as many story books as possible, and not to do so many assessment books That is in line with my thinking too.

hmm, not a lot of homework - about 3 pages for maths per day, will have more over the weekend. DD usually completes within 15-20 mins.
For Eng is usually a piece of worksheet for them to write a few sentences for the week's theme (eg: draw and write about Dan the flying man)

Oh, i've spared her from all the assessment books since P1 starts. i want her to settle down in her new school routine.

Her FT shared with us that if the child is able to complete his/ her homework without much help (or better, no help) from the parents, then it should be quite safe to say she/ he understands the work for the day
So i'll say a bit of homework is still essential, so long the child don't complaint lor (or maybe not yet ??)

My girl, too. When she's not in the mood, she'll grumble and frown...this afternoon i tried to get her to learn ting xie (for Wed) and she said she wants a nap :roll:

She's that kind must wait till the day b4 then she'll take it seriously lor...

Her teachers practise the 'reward' system so those who score full marks will get a sticker on the performance chart. At the end of the month, those that have most stickers will receive a small token (a cute pencil or something) from the teacher. According to DD, the reward system applies to good behaviour, too.

DD is very game and hope she'll work hard for this
