    • RE: All about Transferring to Other Primary Schools

I am still waiting for news. You also tried using gep first round results ?

I think this period of time till mid Dec , moe is doing STEPS. So schools may only inform after steps is over.?

For GEP schools and for highly, popular Mainstream schools, they won't participate in STEPS, if the remaining (balance) seats left for Mainstream places (allocation), is Zero.

      Reason -
Principals from these (GEP and highly, popular) Mainstream schools, prefer to hand-pick, select, sieve-out candidates (Transfer candidates) and interview on their own accord first. All these personal selection, must be done by Principal, BEFORE STEPS take place, because after all the vacancies had been snapped up (allocated by Principal), if there is still anymore remaining (balance) of seats left, then STEPS will consume. Otherwise, zero vacancy is left for STEPS.

As school Term 4 had already closed, and 16 November was the start of this year (2018) school holiday, if by now you still have not received any news yet, means chances are ... very slim.

STEPS ... is more applicable for those Non-popular, ordinary neighbourhood primary schools.

Why is it much harder to Transfer at End of Primary 3, using GEP Round 1 results ?

      Reason
For (GEP and highly popular Mainstream) schools, many students had already Transferred in, at end of Primary 2. Thus, seats had already been consumed (eaten up, swallowed up), by end of P2. Some very popular schools can take in as many as close to one whole class of 30 pupils Transferree in, at end of P2.

As such, when come to end of P3, even if there is a pool of several candidates awaiting for Transfer, all armed with clearance of GEP Round 1 Test, it is very hard, because ... if no vacancy arise, how to Transfer in ? Some more, compete with such a big pool of clearance of GEP Round 1 candidates, to seek Transfer into the same identical school (perhaps) ?

Normally, how do vacancies at end of P3 arise, in popular Mainstream schools ?

That will depend on the number of P3 students, who had cleared Round 2 GEP tests, been given the brown envelope (GEP offer, from MOE) and are awaiting for Transfer, out to one of those 9 GEP Centre.

In the event got students who despite been offered GEP, but chose to stay back in Mainstream, decided not take up GEP offer, means number of vacancies that arise further reduced.

      example (real-life scenario)

Suppose in a very popular primary school, by end of P2, all vacancies (seats) had already been snapped up (Transfer). This school had already taken in a Total of 29 pupils for Transfer in, by the end of P2.

Suppose, at end of P3, six P3 students been offered GEP. Total, how many vacancies created now, at the end of P3 ?
      6. In the event there is a large pool of outside P3 students, all armed (equipped with) clearance of GEP Round 1 test, want to enter this school (Transfer), means an intense competition (fight), for these ... 6 seats. Definitely, some applicants won't be able to enter (rejected).

      Conclusion
Best to Transfer out at the end of P2, not wait until end of P3, then seek Transfer

Thank you for your detailed explanation. Really appreciate it. I am new a noob in this topic, but any idea how can a popular school suddenly have so many vacancies at end P2? Thanks.

    • RE: All About Getting Priority Registration

      Hi,

Newbie here and would like to check on the following:
I would like to do PV at my preferred school to qualify for 2B.
However comes registration I am thinking of registering my son in my old school under 2A2, then monitor the chances of my preferred school under 2B. If there is a high chance then I register him under 2B, if not just stay put. Can that be done? Or once I register under 2A2, I will automatically have to go under 2C? Anybody can help, please. Thanks a million.
