      Crescent Girls is ok school.

I read with interest the Forum dated recently about this school.
It seems the contributors ( mainly its students as they claim ) are deliberatly promoting very hard this school to the public.
      Gives us a 'fake feeling'.
My daughter said her classmates will bad mouth others from another class.
During recess, the students will be quite rowdy and cut queue. But I guess these situations occur in most schools.
Someone mentioned about seeking teachers for help after school in
      studies issue.
Yes, it's true the students can do that. However, most of the time, teachers are busy with their CCAs commitment that one cannot meet up with teachers after school and in the end, resort to asking home tutors.
It's not teachers' fault, just the school system.
The school O level results have dipped slightly.
Based on 2012 O Level results, Crescent Girls' did not clinch the Sustained Achievement Award for Value-Addedness (SAA) this year.
It has been getting the award for past years.
Daughter feels the school does not really focus on academics as it used to be last time- study pace is quite relaxing now. It used to be more competitive under previous Principal. Suitable for those who do not want to be in a competitive environment now.
The teachers are very nice and caring but too nice that some students take them for granted.
The Principal is approachable and always smiling.
Overall, it's a school suitable for one who wants a normal pace of learning.
The higher achiever students can look for other schools.

After reading the post, I was quite shocked to know that crescent owns cut queue for food. During my recess slots, I could see girls queuing orderly, in straight lines. For other recess slots, I'm not sure.

Is your daughter in Sec one this year ? Because throughout my years in Crescent I've never encountered anyone doing anything like this. Oh and don't worry we weren't asked by our school to promote Crescent. Sorry if it gave you a fake feeling

Hello everyone! I am a student, currently 12, waiting for psle results. I really want to get into crescent if I can score that high -.- Mrs Tan, the principal of crescent girls came to my school and introduce crescent to us. She gave me a good impression of crescent and she is so humorous! She is not like my principal, boring, old and stern. May I ask some questions about crescent? 1. Is the school very stress? 2. What subjects can we take at secondary 1? 3.is it cope able? 4. How's the students there? 5. Will overweight students need to take part in health and fitness club or something like that? 6. Is crescent a highly competitive school? 7. How's the CCA there? Any recommendation? 8. I live in Jurong, I know to get to crescent, we need to take mrt till red hill station. After that, how do we walk to the school? 9.last question, I know in this school, we need to buy tablets to study, so, do the school provide any subsidies for poor students? I know the tablet cost around 2200. Please reply me! The last question is the most important. Sorry if I trouble any of you. I am stupid -.-

      Hi ELFandShawol,

Good luck for your PSLE. For you to take the initiatve to ask all those questions, you are definitely not stupid. Instead, you are a bright girl who knows what you want.

I believe schools nowadays do provide financial assistance to students who require it. Affordability should not be a barrier for any Singapore students who choose to go to their choice school. I heard Mrs Tan mentioned about financial assistance for overseas immersion trip. But hopefully the existing girls can shed more light on the tablet financial assistance and your other concerns.

During the open house, Mrs Tan jokingly highlighted that CGS is a Government autonomous school which means that schools fees is cheap. Yes, she sounds very down to earth (as in real) and humourous. I also joined the Crescent parents support group on FB and they have very interesting/ good initiative such as uniform recycling. So support is definitely there. So don't worry too much but focus on doing your best.

Yup the financial assistance there is really good. Like for uniforms you definitely don't need to but. The parents would be more that happy to give out the uniforms. And for books you actually can ask like just the seniors to give them to you. Like I actually have my own set of books at home but I ask my seniors for theirs because sometimes the important stuff are highlighted ! If you do want I can pass mine to you ! Just tell me which class will do

Oh really ? haha glad to know someone likes our uniform. It's really thin , must wear PE or camisole underneath. But I got lazy after two years haha

Well she is crazy about yellow color as it is her lucky color...Dh was like cedar uniform is very nice etc... But dd is adamant that CGS uniform is very nice... I bought her those singlet after reading about it on ksp

Yeah very few schools have this shade of yellow for their uniforms

Yeah… crescent doesn’t do any advertising. It’s only known to either people who live around that area of recommendation by ex crescentians. I actually only came to crescent after my mum’s colleague( who graduated 30 years ago haha) brought up this school.

    • RE: Crescent Girls' School

Hi parents 🙂 I've been in Crescent in 3 years now and I feel like I need to share my experience with all of you. Frankly , I think that CGS is THE most underrated school in Singapore. I started off my secondary school career with a girls school... lets say better than Crescent (in terms of COP). But by the end of year 1 it just didn't feel right and thus I decided to transfer to Crescent. Initially , I thought I would be ostracized and left alone being the \"new girl\", oh how wrong could I be. My classmates were great , they were friendly and genuinely nice people. Singapore strives to achieve a holistic education for all students , and I'm sure to say that Crescent definitely has achieved that. Even though I live in Woodlands and Crescent is literally across the island , I once regreted coming to crescent. Not when I was squeezing on the crowded train at 6.30pm 3 times a week after strenuous training. The people there are really friendly , it's like a whole different world in that building. Everyone is friendly , happy and helpful. Everyday I look forward to going to school. Okay enough of the sweettalk and lets get to the main points

-The teachers in crescent are SERIOUSLY dedicated. You see them coming to school at 6.30am giving consultations and leaving at 7pm. They will do their UTMOST best to try to help you. Honestly , when I did not do well for my exams I won't feel sad because I'm letting down my parents... But because I let down all my teachers. And take note that this situation is not just around the exam period , you can request for consultation from any teacher any time and I'm sure they will try their best to help you
-CCA. CCA in crescent is a whole different thing all together. I'm in a sport CCA and even though it's very tiring , I've never regretted joining it because I get a chance to do what I love. It's not like in Primary school where you just go in a CCA to have fun , you need serious dedication here to keep going on. But from this we've learnt perseverance and much more
-Students. Crescentians are the best people I've met in my life so far. They play hard and they study hard. I remembered when I was in Sec 2 close to EOY exams and I was still fooling around not taking things seriously. I had Whatsapp messages and FB messages every single day from my friends bugging me and nagging me to study hard. Even my parents never pushed me that hard HAHAHA. But truth to be told. Crescentians are great influences a example- everytime we go to Tiong Bahru plaza there would be this Erhu busking uncle and most people treat him invisible but many of us do donate to him. Many of us have already reached our maximum CIP hours to gain LEAP points but still continue to do CIP. Don't believe me ? Go out to Orchard road on any given school holiday - I ensure you , you will encounter at least a group of them doing CIP work. Throughout my time in Crescent I've never seen or even heard of any bullying cases before and I trust that no one would do such a thing. However there is one downpoint of cresceentians. We're notoriously noisy , sometimes during special occasions (especially national day) feel like they're about the burst. But it's that lively spirit that keeps me going to school everyday with a smile on my face
-School compound. The school compound looks old - I agree. It's not as fancy and nice as other schools. But it's so comfortable , greenery everywhere and the fact that it's up on a hill and not surrounded by anything apart from a preschool makes the environment VERY cosy and comfortable. We're often visited by friendly animals - enormous monitor lizards , bees , monkeys , squirrels and exotic birds. Just that day I saw TWO white parrots eating the seeds of our berry plant. The facilities are really good though , the ISH is a new building and there are many special rooms that I believe other schools don't have. We have 2 music recording studios that we hold MEP lessons in (students from many schools come to crescent for their MEP lessons as our facilities are up to date) we have a Comm arts lab with a cool green screen and TVs and sound system that sec one students use for their Comm arts lessons. We have Hueme lab where flat big touch screens (2mx1m) are laid out for students to interact with.

I think I sound pretty desperate in this post but it's just that I get really upset that Crescent does not get much attention even though it's a great school 😞 I hope this post managed to help you'll
