My DC’s school does not even indicate the yearly prize winners (top 3, top in EMS in cohort), edusave awards, E2K, participation in science olympiads, only show if won medals.. so participation not shown.
Only indicate the CCA and if hold any leadership roles in CCA or class or Prefect.
I know some schools put almost everything..even participation.

On the point one should not apply under two academic domains at one time, I do not agree. On the combination of domains to apply, it depends on individual portfolio. If one do not have strong portfolio in lets say in leadership, just a normal prefect and he knows he surely cannot get a CO via leadership, why should he waste that chance. Just saying only, I know there was prefect that get CO.

Also for high achiever kids, a lot that I know good at many different areas. Like coding, dance, music, sports, art and etc. so nothing wrong for them to have diverse interests.

In this new world, kids cannot just have one speciality only. No doubt they should be good at what they let’s say dsa in, but they should have hobbies too. In case one day another pandemic strike and they need to have another talent that they can switch to immediately.

Also math and science are inter related. So a student good at both are not uncommon.

Yes, we do ponder should we apply the same domain under three different schools or more domain to secure entry to the dream school. And we respect our child’s choice.

One, you cannot apply for three domains at a single school. MOE has not allowed this since 2019 when the common DSA portal was started.

Second, whether a student applies for one domain or two domains he/she can only accept one CO, and then he/she will be tied down to activities for that one domain. So while the allure of a CO and not needing to depend on PSLE results is certainly attractive, committing to DSA may not be for those students who have varied interests and are still deciding on exactly what they want to do in secondary school.

While I guess there are cases of students applying for multiple academic domains, I can also see this being a negative for some selectors. Aptitude is one thing, interest is another. If applying multiple (academic) domains, do you really want to do A? Or is it B? Or is it whatever way you can grab a seat and avoid the S1 posting? Some selectors may not care, but some may.

Thought more CO are offered because they want more STEM talents. Wonder how many CO is offered for science domain.

It should be well noted that dsa maths domain for top IP schools are v v competitive even though it may appear that there are more places assigned so bagging some platinum MO awards should be more secure. Just take a count of how many pupils get the platinum awards annually and roughly can tell the competition level for this domain.

Interesting to know that! They do take note of her other preferences. I do hope they still allow the kids to apply three domains 😀. There is so much activities that offer at the secondary schools. Some kids have diverse interests, they do not wish to just tied down to attending activities that related to one domain only. So, they do hope they are giving chance to participate activities from other domains too. One way of letting the schools know they are interested is maybe through dsa.

In an earlier DSA batch, my friend's daughter applied for RGS three different domain (Maths + Science + Leadership). That time, she not interested in NUS High nor in Nanyang Girls High nor in any other IP school in Singapore. Is either RGS by (DSA or entered by PSLE Road). In fact, she is confident of entering RGS by PSLE route. But she sees advantage(s) in entering by DSA road first. Hence, she applied.

Out of these three domain applied for,
her daughter was invited to attend RGS Maths proficiency test, but not Science. That means RGS short-listed her for Maths, but not Science. Perhaps there are stronger, better competitors out there, amongst thousands of DSA applicants, so she wasn't short-listed for Science.

After the Maths proficiency test was over, she was short-listed to attend an interview.

She attended only one interview, that involved interviewers asking her questions, involving both (Leadership + Maths) domain. They asked her, \"if we were to offer u, what is your preference ?\"

In the end, RGS offered her only one CO (Leadership). Not Maths.

I think it depends on the school. SCGS will only let you apply for one academic domain. Last year, someone said their child was shortlisted for both Math and Science at NYGH (see below). However, this year the selection tests (9 July) and interviews (30 July) for all of the academic domains are on the same day (last year this was not the case), so they may only give you one even if apply for two (and are reasonably qualified for both).

RI has historically also limited applicants to one academic domain. Not sure if this is still the case this year...

Understand that ultimately a school will only offer one CO. The reason this question was asked mainly due to the fact we understand language domain usually is very very competitive with single digit offer number of CO. While STEM like math maybe has more CO being offered. Therefore, just wonder if ultimately only one interview is given, then the candidate fail the interview , it will be a waste of applying two domains

Even if you were to apply for Total 3 different DSA domain within the SAME DSA Secondary school,
Eg.

say, you apply to ( RI or RGS ), for 3 different domain :-

If the school were to offer your kid a CO or a Wait-list, again, the same thing happen :-

it will only be for ONE single domain. Not more than one domain. They will never you

Interview wise, Yes, only one interview to attend. But if there are proficiency academic tests, may need to attend more than one, provided you get short-listed.

say, u applied for RGS /RI Total 3 different domain, because let's say u only interested in one school (RGS / RI). No other Secondary school in Singapore interests you, apart from RGS / RI. At the same time, you are also confident that even without DSA, your kid is confident enough to attain AL (4 to 6), by PSLE route. Yes, there are P6 students that are like that.

Lets say, these are the 3 domain, you applied for RGS / RI.

1. Science domain - academic

2. Maths domain - academic

3. Leadership


They will offer your kid the best fit what their school is in need of and factored in what they think your son / daughter can contribute to.

Of course during the interview, prepare your kid in advance this question, bec they will ask :-

Hi , if a candidate apply for two academic domains in the same school, like dsa math and dsa science ,or dsa math and dsa bilingualism, will the candidate be called for both interviews if qualified or the school will only call for one interview? Thanks in advance for answering !
