Who deserves a place at hcjc more? A student who doesn’t even meet the promotion criteria or a three pointer?


The whole purpose of having o level classes is not to make students feel bad about themselves, or an excuse to kick them out of hcjc. It is to provide weaker students with a o level cert to fall back on just in case they do not do well for A levels. There are students from top classes in nygh (smtp) getting straight Us in hc, what about those who can’t even meet the promotion criteria?

quoted from one of my teachers in hc: "the problem with the ip stream. what are you going to do if you don’t do well for A levels? go out and tell people "I got 260+ for psle"?"

Furthermore, I don’t think msg 3 is a stringent requirement. Msg 3 basically means a B3 in all 6 subjects. To enter hcjc through o levels you need a L1R5 of 3, and even with that it’s not a guaranteed entry.

Since metal and oxygen is present in the ratio of 7:3,
28x/8y = 7/3
x/y = (8/28)(7/3) = 2/3
Formula of metal oxide = M2O3

i like your mindset. hehe

I guess interest is really important. Don't choose a subject which is \"easier to score\". If you dislike a subject it's unlikely that you will do well. H2 Bio/Phy is actually quite different from sec sch science in terms of content so you might want to read up a little on the topics.

I took H2 Physics. I find that the problem most people face is that they merely memorize the formulas and sub in blindly. In order to do well for phy you really need to understand how these formulas work, thats why the need for a lot of practice.

From what I understand from my friends, H2 bio is no longer just about memorising and regurgitating like in sec sch. There's a lot of application questions in the paper so you need to understand the content well.

1) Yes, chinese dance is one of NYGH’s core CCAs

2) For DSA via academics, your daughter would have to sit for 3 tests, English/Chinese and Mathematics. So unless she is exceptionally talented at all 3 subjects, DSA via CCA is definitely easier.

Do note that 4 years is not a short time. Performing arts CCAs generally have a lot of practices, usually 2-3 times a week, which may increase to 4-5 times per week if there are performances/syfs. It is a lot of commitment, so unless your daughter is really interested in the CCA, don’t enter via DSA.

There is no such thing as a superior answer for interview questions. The whole purpose of interviews is for the interviewers to understand the applicants and to select the ones who are able to fit into the school culture and to make the most out of their time in the school. So just be yourself.

FYI, I know of someone who replied: "sleep and slack around" to question 1, for a usp interview and he got in.

do lots of essay outlines, if you dont have the time or mood, like what happened to me before As, read through all the suggested solutions you have. it really helps. but this is provided that you know your concepts really well, how to explain, how to draw the graphs etc. reading only helps you familiarize w the format of the answers for different question types.

its a really good guide book, easy to understand and follow.

Also, do not just memorize your econs notes. Content is important but in order to do well, you also need to know how to effectively apply what you've learnt. Do essay outlines if you have no time to write out full essays, really helps! Personally, I got really bored of doing essay outlines prior to prelims and As so i just read through the guide book and all the answer schemes to other schools prelim papers. might want to give it a try, it worked for me
