My eldest son is now P6 and youngest is P1.
this school got its pros and cons.
let me share a bit:
1. My DS1 is learning violin outside, when requested to join string ensemble, his teacher urged him to join Chinese Orchestra instead. saying better for DSA when he going for Sec1. well i never worry about my DS1 studies and think well, why not, another instrument and since his classmates are there (his Chinese teacher is the teacher in charge for Chinese Orchestra), let him.
Later til i know ( After 2 years!!), all this DSA thingy is just to attract my DS1 to beef up the school’s Chinese Orchestra, which is not attracting enough people.
There is no individual grooming for the instruments. just group practises for the SYF competition. Once the competition is over, no more practises. practises resumes when the Chinese Orchestra required to perform at Chinese New Year Celebrations!!
The so called instructors employed by the school from outside proposed that my son attend their "private" tutoring to improve his chances in DSA!! p.s. the instructors are on part time contract… expired after the SYF Competition.
Recently i wanted to enrol my DS1 into DSA (Chinese Orchestra), realised… the minimum requirements are not so simple. maybe its my oversight, but i realise that i can’t rely on the words of the teacher.
in fact, before i let my DS1 join in the chinese orchestra, i did spoke to the teacher. she totally convinced me that its a viable and probable option.
other comments next time.
1. Lousy bus services, Arrangements.
2. Poor Curriculum arrangements. (5.5hrs for science at P6?? only)
3. No Parent Teachers Meetings every term (Teachers too busy, no need)
4. Teachers always on courses. (Relief teachers too often)
