Hi, would anyone possibly know info on the upcoming June holiday classes offered at Wang Learning Centre-East Gate location?

My kids are currently enrolled at another centre, but my neighbor highly recommends this class so I thought maybe we should try the holiday class for starters.

Interested in the chinese composition paper 1 class.

Thanks in advance for sharing. šŸ™‚ really appreciate!!

      Hi,

I know it's past the June holiday and this response is belated.

I have two kids with Wang Learning Centre Eastgate. Learned about Wang Learning Centre sometime last year as I send my children to Math Monkey in the same building. :boogie:

My girl attends the 3 hour class while my son attends the Paper 2 class last year. My son has shown significant improvement in his Paper 2 SA2 results last year. This year migrated him to the Paper 1 class.

From the materials that my girl brings back, the Oral component and Paper 1 materials are very good.

In spite of the good materials, to see improvement in results, the following are necessary:

      1. the kids diligently revise the 听写 and 默写, which can be very long. Certainly more than 10 phrases each week :faint: ;
      2. as parents, we need to revise the materials with them to reinforce the learning.

You should visit the centre and request to have a peek at the materials.

Hope the above helps you to assess if you should switch your child from the current centre to Wang Learning Centre.

      Cheers! šŸ˜„

      Hi
May I know if the 听写默写 is in compo class or paper 2 class? Which level are your kids in? Thanks.
There are three different types of classes:

      1. Compo Class - both 听写 (only a short list) and 默写
      2. Paper 2 Class - 听写 only
      3. 3 hour class - both 听写 and 默写

My kids were in P4 Compo Class and P6 3 hour class.

      Cheers!

    • RE: All About Flashcards

      Hi All,

I have thousands of pre-loved flashcards to give away.

Some are store bought from Shichida. Some are homemade.

My kids have all outgrown them.

Whether you are flashcard believers, or want to give them a try, please PM me.

      Cheers! šŸ˜„

Can show the names and addresses of the GPs who do ear piercing?

If you want mine at Toa Payoh, I can PM you.

If you want mine at Toa Payoh, I can PM you.

Hi Can you also PM me details of your GP in Toa Payoh? I have promised my daughter as a birthday present.

By the way, did your GP use surgical stainless steel earring? Read from a medical website that this is safer than gold.

      Thank you in advance.

      Hi there!

My daughter is in P2 this year. Next year she will start having CCA. From what I heard there will not be any school bus service to bring her home after CCA. Is that true?

If it's true, It's going to be tough for me! I can't go and bring her home! Any other solution for this?

      TIA! šŸ™‚

Did u check with the sch? I believe there is sch bus back on official cca days. But if your dd has other extra cca days (eg preparing for competition), likely no tpt back or you'll hv to arrange separately with the sch bus operator and pay extra.

School bus service is available on CCA day (which is a Thursday in 2015). If your daughter is required to stay for extra CCA days, eg additional practise for performance, you will then need to arrange for transport on your own.

    • RE: Comparing Math Enrichment Programmes

      CCLeow:
      dear all

Im looking for a p1 math tuition centre urgently, any recommendation? Peferably around parkway or east/north east. Her math teacher has informed us that her math is below the average in class and require extra attention to build up/strengthen her foundation so that she can catch up with the class.

Does Mind Stretcher help or other?

      many thanks.
In selecting an enrichment centre for you P1, who needs to build her foundation, please consider:

      1. the curriculum of the centre - The more established centres have a systematic curriculum and the teachers are expected to follow this predetermined curriculum. The curriculum of most of these centres are ahead of the rate at which the school teaches.

      2. group size of the class - Depending on timing, some classes can have as few as two kids while others can be a roomful of upward from 10. Group size is an important factor to consider depending on whether your child will voluntarily seek clarification in the case that she does not follow.

      3. her level of interest in math - If there is lack of interest in the subject, and her results are below average, it is likely to be a downward spiral from this point. If there is a lack of interest, you may want to consider enrolling her for a programme with some structured play element :rahrah: . Once her interest is ignited, it makes learning a lot easier and enjoyable.

My girl was in Mind Stretcher for a year in P1 / P2, before we withdrew after not seeing improvement :gloomy: . Mind Stretcher is a group class, with a set curriculum for the teachers to follow. Our experience with Mind Stretcher was:

      1. homework - She was expected to complete worksheets after worksheets. Whilst there is a common belief that math requires a lot of practise, I am not a subscriber of drilling exercises. We found that the worksheets were adding to her load of homework from school.

      2. teaching methods - Upon submission of the worksheets in the following lesson, the teacher would go through the answes on the board. As the child frantically copies the answers, the child has little bandwidth to understand and appreciate the explanations for the answers. This is especially the case where my child (a) needs more time to digest information and (b) too shy to request the teacher to slow down (which is common among our local students). When she comes back with the answers copied, I need to walk through the solution and explain to her all over again as she did not have the chance to understand the explanation at all :scratchhead: . Now you guess who is the tutor who was paid :moneyflies: but not teaching? and the tutor who was teaching but not paid :imanangel: ?

      3. sturctured curriculum - As Mind Stretcher has been in the business for many years, you can be assured that the curriculum is structured and modelled after the MOE syllabus. They even have programme targetting at GEP preparation.

Hope our experience helps you sieve out the ones that are suitable for your child. Happy searching šŸ˜„ !

Fees :moneyflies: at $450 per term, i think comparable to the likes of the other program. Regardless, totally worth it when my girl is so happy! :rahrah:

I think have free trial class. Bring your child to try la! after all, it's free!

      Hi everyone.

Looks like I am not the only one having a hard time deciding on math tuition class.
My son is in p6 next year. so i m very 'kan cheong'
Had 1-1 tuition before but not effective.

I had shortlisted Concept Math and Visible Math/On sponge.

Both of them focus on problem sums.

I am still undecided and had been looking to mommies sharing fr more info.

However, after reading, i get even more confuse w so many other options like JEI PSLE, Mind stretcher šŸ˜ž

Wish all of us good luck in getting a good English/Math/Sci/CL ctr for our precious children

      Hi Mamababyface

I am in the same situation as you. However my girl hates math.

I am really confuse as to which math enrichment program to enroll.

      haizzzzzzzzzz :lightrod:

      Hi!

My girl hated Math too! until we stumble upon Math Monkey :boogie: .

See my other post on Math Monkey.

Since starting on this programme, she has been looking forward to going for classes. I don't know what the teacher did to her 🤷 , but she has been very motivated, even when struggling with the worksheet.

You may want to check out their website.
