He might like HCI more. Putting RI in the 1st choice might be parent's preference... ๐Ÿ˜‚

This is really good overview, thanks!!! Just to clarify...

For OP students:-
1) In S3, they will take ๆ™ฎๅŽ national exam, and the score can be used for L1R5?
2) In S4, they will take ้ซ˜ๅŽ national exam, and this score can be used for L1R5 and bonus 2pts deduction?
3) If the result for ้ซ˜ๅŽ is borderline kind but still pass (btw what grade is pass?), then the student use it to earn bonus 2pts but not consider it in L1R5 aggregate?

For IP students,
1) Only required to take ้ซ˜ๅŽ national exam at S4, and if the pass then JC1 & 2 can throw away all CL books liao?
My thoughts:
For OP students:-
1) In S3, they will take ๆ™ฎๅŽ national exam, and the score can be used for L1R5?

Yes, it can be used in R5 provided HML is not used to replace EL in L1.
2) In S4, they will take ้ซ˜ๅŽ national exam, and this score can be used for L1R5 and bonus 2pts deduction?
Yes, if HML passes, it can be used in 2 pts deduction. If the result is better than EL, It can also be used to in L1 to replace EL but in this case, ML cannot be used in R5.
3) If the result for ้ซ˜ๅŽ is borderline kind but still pass (btw what grade is pass?), then the student use it to earn bonus 2pts but not consider it in L1R5 aggregate?
Of course if HML grade is at borderline and very low, there is no point to use it in L1 to replace EL.
Note that HML is only used in L1 if it is beneficial to replace EL to have a better overall score in L1R5 combination.

For IP students,
1) Only required to take ้ซ˜ๅŽ national exam at S4, and if the pass then JC1 & 2 can throw away all CL books liao?

Yes it's true. But not all IP students need to take HML. There are students in IP school who takes ML only. And also for OP students, this rule applies to them as well for ML exemption in JC1 if they pass HML in O level exam.

Thanks for the clarification! Iโ€™ve edited my post accordingly. Interestingly, according to MOE requirement, both EL and HMT must be min C6 to get 2 bonus points (page 12), but to be exempted from taking MT at JC it requires min D7 (page 97), and to meet the min requirement to go JC is E8 for HMT or D7 for MT (page 31).
I think \"to be exempted from taking MT at JC it requires min D7\" is at page 91 instead of page 97.

I have same thought as you. But DS still wants to put nanhua first...

Maybe , itโ€™s like some of us prefer a lower paying but offer better work life balance job ?

sunny, there might be reasons why your boy wants to put Nanhua in his first choice:
1) He really likes Nanhua
2) His good friends going to Nanhua
3) He is not so keen to go to EJC, he aims other JCs upon O level.

So after all analysis and advice to your boy, let him make final decision on the first choice as he shall be happy in the school chosen.

Dear Parents,

To understand how the 2020 PSLE cohort performed and therefore have a better perspective of how the COPs of different secondary schools are likely to move (ie. increase or decrease), can parents of this year's cohort kindly help to post the highest T-score (please EXCLUDE the HCL bonus points) in their child's respective primary school by clicking on the below link?

https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/t-scores/

Currently, the table only reflects the t-score information of < 20 schools which makes it difficult for any meaningful analysis. Hence, would like to appeal for more parents to step forward and share the highest t-score data in their child's primary school by clicking on the above link.

Many thanks in advance!

:thankyou:

As reference
Top 10%: 252 (2020); 250 (2019); 252 (2018)
ESIS: 261 (2020); 261 (2019); 260 (2018)
https://postimg.cc/Z0x1k3KQ

It is not really possible to analyse COPs movements afterall the demand and supply differs for each cohort

What we do know is 39,995 took PSLE
Top 10% is ~ 4000 (>= 252).
Top 3% is ~ 1200 (>= 261)
The 4000 includes kids who DSA successfully to their dream schools including NUSH, SST etc.
If you are targeting IP/IB schools, assuming each has intake about 300-400, you can do a rough estimate.

PSLE 2020 papers were relatively easier, the average is higher but the high scores are lower.
Easier papers mean many of the candidates will score around the same high marks, that is, the variance from the mean (average) is smaller.
So just make sure your choices has a safety net with COP 7-10 below your T-score.

Easier paper and higher raw score do not necessarily mean higher T-Score. The average T-Score of the whole cohort might not change much, the COP of individual school will mostly depend on demand and supply.
Yes, the 6th choice can have a safety net with COP 7-10 below your T-Score but the rest can have a smaller margin.

pengpeng is right. Social Studies is a full subject at HCI (i.e. it covers more than the half subject at O levels).
If you are not in any special programmes in HCI, you will read two full Humanities. For the Science and Tech aspects, it's Phy+Chem, or Phy+Chem+Bio, or Phy+Chem+Computing. You can't take both Bio and Computing at the same time.

So in HCI, English lit + history is not allowed ?

This combination is only available for those in the Humanities Programme, who must read History, English Lit and Geog.
And there is only 1 class for Humanity Programme which only the top students can enroll in this Special Programme.
Thanks doodbug for clarity.

HCI allows student to take 2 sciences (Phy and Chem), 2 humanities, 2 maths and 2 languages, plus Additional subject of either Bio or Computing, total 9 subjects, provided his Sec 2 result is good.

10th subject needs special approval.

If I am not wrong, for HCI, the 2 humanities comprises of Geography/ History and Social Studies. In other schools, SS is paired with an elective Humanities to make up one whole subject. So SS is not considered as a full O level subject in itself. And hence, HCI is in fact only offering 1 Humanities? Is my understanding correct?
HCI does offer two Humanity subjects which are different from O level subjects. For IP curriculum, one is Social Study, one is Humanities Elective of Geography/History/Literature English/Literature Chinese. Students have the choice of taking 2 sciences plus 2 humanities or selecting 3 sciences plus 2 humanities.

There are a few Special Programs which the humanities subjects are slightly different.

Two students score 282 without HML from reliable resources, A* for all four subjects, not to disclose the school and student names.

Hi Parents, considering to put NJC or ACSI as second choice for ds who scored 258.
Both schools are very good schools.
Heard NJC has a lot more girls than boys.
ACSI is a boy school (ds prefers boy school). But it's a Methodist school. Is it a problem for free thinkers to be in a Methodist school?
Thanks.
In a Methodist school in Singapore, students can still think freely... no worries.

What you really need to think of is the difference of IP and IB.
