Actually overall, I really like the school. I think they did some things right. I like that the principal actually pulled a boy out from floorball school team because he failed in a few subjects during exams. He is an important member of the school team so the principal places his priority on the child rather than the winnings of the school. I think this is really important. He would join the school team after passing his exams.
The principal and some teachers seem really compassionate, especially important as my elder son is epileptic (but he has recovered well and not on medication). The teacher in charge of the NCC camp messaged me and asked if my boy could watch a movie that they were going to screen during the camp, in view of his epilepsy. I was really touched cos not many teachers would do that - I feel.
My younger son, now in P6, pesters me to allow him to study in Bukit Merah SS. He is a member of the primary school’s floorball team. However, his results can bring him to academically better schools. I am contemplating this.

Hi icy_mama,
How's your typical weekday and weekend like? I am always busy and the last two years or so, I have been feeling really tired - like not having enough energy to do everything I want to do. Do you feel this way? Btw I am 42 this year. -

I have been a SAHM for more than 12 years now. I have been staying at home since the birth of my DS1. DS1 is in P6 and DS2 in P4.
How I manage:
Cook, wash clothes, misc chores - myself
Cleaning Kitchen/Bathroom/Mop - myself
Holidays - hardly. Out of Singapore only in March this year to Legoland. Before that, our last trip was my hubby's outstation assignment in States in 2005.
Restaurants - Usually once or twice during school hols.
Grocery Shopping - regularly at NTUC. Once in a while at Cold Storage.
Clothes Shopping - sometimes at the market, hardly at shopping centre
Driving - Yes. I am the family's chauffeur. No need to chauffeur to tuition centre cos I am their tutor. :rahrah:
Savings and Planning for retirement - my hubby handles.
It's tough to be a SAHM initially cos there was no help apart from my confinement lady. I learn to destress by doing things I like everyday - like watching korean dramas after the kids sleep, having some time to do window shopping at the malls, reading, etc. Without this me-time, I am sure I would find it very tough to do this for a continuous 12 years. And I don't expect my hubby to help me with the chores. I used to expect him to help out and would get so disappointed when he didn't. Now, if he helps, I would be very happy :rahrah: But he has been very busy with his new role in the office, so I don't want to burden him with household chores. I just do the chores slowly if I am tired. -
RE: 2012 PSLE Discussions and Strategy
Which 手册 did you buy? Do you have a pic or the name and publisher? Will go pick this up.
My son is just an average student plus he needs a longer time to master concepts compared to his peers. With a longer lead time, he can perform quite ok, like average or above average. He is definitely not a top student. And I can’t push too hard cos he is epileptic. (His epilepsy started 4 years back. Had status epilepticus and landed in ICU for a month and warded for 3 months. After discharge, he has been good so far). He needs a lot of sleep and can’t be overly stressed. Teaching in advance takes stress off his homework that the teacher gives so that’s good for him. Otherwise he will be sweating over the homework every day and worrying that he cannot complete them in time.
Thanks for the tips. Comes in really handy! -
RE: 2012 PSLE Discussions and Strategy
Chenonceau,
Thanks for your quick reply. I find that if I teach the Maths basics in advance, my son absorbs a lot better. He needs more time to grasp the concepts and it works well for him. Just wonder if we can manage to cram the entire P6 syallabus into the p5 holidays. For P5, we started on the basics for P5B in the June hols so that’s only half a year of work. We will need to do entire P6 year in the year-end hols.
How about the Chinese? My boy’s character recognition is not so strong so he takes longer time to master too. Do you do the entire Chinese syllabus in the P5 year-end hols?
Thanks so much for your inputs. Really appreciate it. -
RE: 2012 PSLE Discussions and Strategy
Hi, my son is taking PSLE in 2013. Just wondering if any schools finish the P5 syllabus early and start on P6 syllabus during the P5 year? I see 6A and 6B syllabus for Maths, Science and Chinese. Does it mean the schools cram all the syllabus within half year in P6? Can the students absorb so much? Just thinking ahead so I can help my son better. Thanks a lot.
