Statistics for enrollment of either school is easily available online.
YLL is affiliated to NUH while LKC is to TTSH. No advantage or whatsoever.
It all boils down to each individual, his personalities and learning style.
All the end of the day, students from both school go through the same housemanship/residency programs and are awarded MBBS.
Do yourselves a favour by attending the high tea sessions. You’d be able to come to a decision after that.

Btw, LKC has a new 20-storey campus @Novena, well-equipped and runs 24hrs.

RE: NUS / NTU medicine application 2018/2019
There were quite a number of double offers from YLL and LKC a few years back. But last year, it was not the case. It may seem each school has diff admission criteria since then.

RE: NUS / NTU medicine application 2018/2019
T compare YLL and LKC, in the case of ds 2 years back, we considered the following:
1. fees and bursaries- LKC is way more expensive than YLL but it provides more bursaries than YLL.
2.distance- YLL is nearer and more convenient.
3. hostel- LKC students are encouraged to stay in the hostel.
4.teaching style-YLL adopts traditional lectures and tutorial style while LKC adopts team based learning.
5.male and female ratio: yes, we actually considered this. YLL has more girls while LKC has many more boys.
6. track record- no doubt YLL has a long history, but the Imperial College London has a long history too and has a worldwide reputation. LKC MBBS cert would bear both NTU and Imperial logo, if it matters.
7.professors- LKC has strong team support from London. There are professors from India too. -
RE: HCI as an "IP" school.
No need to have super calibre lah. Consistently work hard will do.
The re-test is not a bad thing after all for those who did not do well at first. -
RE: HCI as an "IP" school.
HairyOrange:
Well said.Structured IP and IP takes the same EOY papers. Only Q prepares for O levels.
Oh, I see.
The school did share that majority of Q class students are affected by either excessive gaming or broken families. These kids are given numerous chances and parents are constantly engaged. BtW, there are O levels students who did well enough to qualify for the College previous years. Parents have a BIG part to play and don't blame the school. HCI is not academically obsessed, they bother to give both academic and a scholastic results in their report card, unlike most schools.
I can't agree more.
When it comes from attention from teachers, the school is top notch, they monitor progress very seriously and provide remedial quickly if needed. True they pitch standards high but most boys survive (BTW my son is an average MSG 2 student). Give the majority of students credit, they are extremely motivated and thrive in challenging environments. We have never had such fruitful meet-the-teachers session till HCI.
Yes, parents pls don't find excuses not to attend the meet-the-teacher session.
Although this is an open forum, ill-informed parents out there should refrain from speculation and over-hyping the Q class and Poly situation in the school. HCI boys have the gusto to speak their minds on their Confession FB (which is sanctioned and participated by the school). The boys have accepted their results and moved on (now laughing at the KS Parents furor). In fact they are enthusiastically chatting abt JC1.
Agree. We should stop all speculation and move on too.
Given another time, my son said he will still choose HCI because he has truly enjoyed Sec 1 given the Great teachers and selfless classmates - and we support him 100%
HCI is ideal for independent, self-disciplined students that don't mind being small fish in big pond. -

My ds is in sec 4 lah, no idea about sec 3 SIP papers. But but, it SHOULD be a different set of papers. A slightly easier one, one that is pitched at their standard, just like what the school did with the previous Q classes.petitemum:
HCI SIP only starts in Sec 3 for the underperformed while ACSI has a dual track start from Sec 1.
Hi Petitemum,
You have mentioned that Sec 3 SIP class is still IP class but more structured format therefore does SIP student have the same EOY paper as Sec IP student.
Understand that SIP class does not enjoy massive consideration like other IP class and in order to move back to IP, SIP student has to get MSG <= 2.5 to qualify. Not too sure if this is a fair chance ....
But I am not 100% sure. Let me ask ds when he comes home this evening, ok? He is still out playing after the HMT paper today. -
RE: HCI as an "IP" school.
Cheerfuldad:
Understand from my son, you need msg of <2.5 to qualifies for 4H2 and not L1R5.
Sorry. It is msg<2.5 to qualify for 4H2.petitemum:
For the calculation of MSG, are all subjects taken into the calculation? Or only a certain number of subjects?
In HCI, MSG takes all subjects into account. For the sec 4 whose msg are >3, they will have to re-test. After which, the school consider their L1R5 to decide if one qualifies for 4H2. From the info provided by the sch, 95% take 4H2 in JC. -
RE: HCI as an "IP" school.
BeContented:
Agree agree!Nebbermind:
Dual track but pupils gets transfer to o lvl if really cannot make it in ip. There's some sort of streaming done at end of yr2 iirc. So no guarantee the ip pupil will stay in ip if he fails to perform.
Agree.
And there is also a minimum point (something like MSG) that one must get to get promoted to next year. Dun think there is a re-test.
I believe all IP schools will still require their students to work hard & will try to help. To me, creating those SIP/'O' classes are actually ways to help. Doesn't mean all who got in are really suitable for IP. Sad if it happens but IMO still beats getting mediocre 'A' results & end up unable to go anywhere. -
