Hi jocekoh
Yes, parents are asked not to be in the school on the first day. That’s why the school conducts orientation. During the orientation, you will see how it will be on the first day of the school. Don’t worry, there is parents volunteers and buddies to guide your child during the first few days. Even recess parents are not allowed. I have had gone through, now my boy is P4. -

Hi porkypig
Well, I think so too. But if you are not kiasu, then just let the child chooses what they think fit. Of course, if you have a outstanding CCA and good results, why not give it a try bcos you are guarantee a place before everyone. When the PSLE results out, you have to fight among all who wishes to go to the same sec sch. That’s why now parents are so kiasu. Piano, art, gym, dancing, violin etc, you name it. Those do not have CCA, they must have good marks in order to get into top sec sch. Sigh… -
RE: Ngee Ann Primary
Hi porkypig
CCA is another way to get into Direct Admission Sec Sch besides the usual good results if you want to get into top sec sch. I understand these top sec sch now they have direct to JC. No ‘O’ level. That means 6 years in the sec sch, then take ‘A’ level. Besides, if you have good portfolio of CCA, that can help you to get into the desired sec school that you have been eyeing before PSLE results are out. Of course they will have to see your P5 and P6 results and your CCA. Also, you have to go for interview. If you are applying using CCA, they’ll test your CCA too. Be it a sport or performing arts. Good CCA means you have to participate competitions and have good results too. Some sec sch wants the niche, so you have to check which sec sch has what cca and their strength. If you have the same cca and is outstanding, and also that sec sch you are eyeing, then you can apply and wait for their reply. -

Hi needhelpmummy, WELCOME!
I am also staying at Bedok and I think Red Swastika and Temasek Primary are quite good. But if you think of sending yr boy to Ngee Ann, Welcome!
Yes, different schools have different hours. At present, Ngee Ann’s sch hrs has changed to 7.45 am to 1.45 for Monday, 7.45 - 1.30 for Tues-Thurs and 7.45 - 1.15 for Fri. Hope I am correct.
From P1 and P2, they’ve scrape off exams. So there will be some assessment thru tests and learning in the class. P1 n P2 will b in the same class unless there’s certain reasons. Ngee Ann has no CA1 or CA2 tests. Not like some other schools. Only mid year and final exams until you reach P5.
You can check with the school when can you start volunteer work. By the way, what makes you want to join NA? -
RE: In-law problems?
why don’t u all try putting yr boy or girl in childcare centre? Mayb this can reduce the conflicts. And I think childcare centre can instill better values than w mil. Perhaps this is a better solutions for both. Children can learn and have friends playing with. They are more independent. They are taught how and why, please and cannot, etc. After school, fetch them home directly. No need to face mil after a day’s hardwork. Do you think so?

RE: In-law problems?
Hi mummies, m new in this thread. Just read some and would like to comment too. My mil also does not boil ‘cooling water’ for me when she brought just a small bottle just to give to her son. I think mayb cantonese mil does tt. Mine also cantonese. And I don’t suggest staying too near too. They’ll just pop-in whenever they like. Sometimes Sunday we would like to snuggle on bed but fil will knock on the door at 6 plus early in the morning. I d mentioned to my mil and guess what my fil said " The sun already out" what? still early? Sometimes fil will pop in and sit at the living room watching TV without speaking. He’ll come anytime any day whenever he has no where to go. Oh my god! That’s my case when we stayed so near. At the end, I decided to sell our house! Mayb I m too much but I cld not tolerate anymore. When they learnt that I moved back to my parents’, can you imagine how they feel? HA HA!

Hi chloecube, yes, its good experience for him but too breathless for mummy! You’ve to worry his school works not done, tuition too but he is a boy that takes things very slowly, happy go lucky type. Sometimes your hair stands and shoot up your blood pressure!
Exam or no exam, he’s still the normal self. Not nervous, no worry and not revising too. So do you think will u get worry whether he will pass or not? Sigh! Dont knw when then he can wake up. -
RE: Ngee Ann Primary
Hi mummies
Forgot to add, mayb my son has too many activities in school too. Like racial harmony day, he has to skip lesson to prepare the booth. When he took the UNSW exams, he has to skip lessons too. When he went for golf tournament, he has to miss a day’s lessons. So I think mayb all this add up too besides the everyday homework. -
RE: Ngee Ann Primary
Hi mummies
Ya P1 n P2 not much hmwk I remembered. But when reached P3, still abit relaxed. Only P4 onwards, you can see that theres so much to do. Say now, this month actually quite relax for P1-P4 cause PSLE takes up 2 days, plus public holidays etc. Altogether theres 6 days no lessons for my boy. But the teachers teach like flying a plane. Everything rush n rush bcos they hv to meet the timeframe. So homework plus corrections alltogether. Those Maths corrections, English all sent back home in one big piles. Sometimes I wonder why the teacher gives back like 1 semester’s work to do corrections instead of everyweek. At least we dont see so much to do plus if that day they have maths homework, chinese n the next day they have chinese n english spelling, oh my god! How to finish in one nite if the kid has cca or tuition during the day? So thats why I said not enough time. I remembered P3 he has to do two Main Mathes worksheets(different worksheets) besides process skills etc. Sometimes I think the school is too kiasu. English also has quite a bit to do too. I do not know whether yr boy or girl has this problem. Anyone?
