    • RE: Travel: China - Beijing

      Need help.

      Going to Beijing in December. Planning to go on a day trip to Great Wall, thus looking for a Guide, private driver or taxi driver, preferably English speaking one. Anyone has someone to recommend? Not keen to book those day tours from hotel because of the unwanted shopping that they bring you to, and secondly, the weather is expected to be freezing cold, so want a private transport so that we can control the time out in the cold and can have the flexibility to visit a few more places.

      Appreciate any recommendations. Can pm me. :rahrah:

      Thanks, Fernvale! Checked with my child. He said same thing also but initially I didn’t quite believe. During the time for my older child who has graduated, the principal insisted on them wearing the yellow uniform for psle, which was a torture during the hot weather. So, looks like now this principal is more flexible.

      Counting down to psle!

      Hi,

      Anyone has a pair of preloved formal school pants (that goes with the yellow uniform) of size 42 or 44 that I can borrow for the period of PSLE, 28 Sep to 4 Oct? Just realised that my boy’s current pants are quite tight and uncomfortable but it’s quite wasteful to buy a new pair just to wear for 5 days of PSLE only, coz he wears PE uniform Everyday.

      Pls pm me if you do have. Thanks!

    • RE: Travel: Japan - General

      Thinking of renting car and going this route :

      Day 1: New Chitose Airport (4.30-5pm pick up rental car. Too late?) -> Noboribetsu (50 mins drive)
      Day 2: Noboribetsu -> Lake Toya -> Niseko
      Day 3: Niseko -> Otaru -> Sapporo
      Day 4: Sapporo -> Tomamu
      Day 5: Tomamu -> New Chitose Airport

      Any advise or comments? Is it too late to pick up rental car from airport and drive to Noboribetsu? Or is it better to stay over at sapporo and pick up rental car the next day?

      Galaxyraider, thanks for the link. It was very helpful to explain much clearer about the use of the Fuji Hakone pass.

      Hi Annkarin72,

      I am going to Tokyo on 19 Nov by Delta Air. Staying in Tokyo for 3 nights first, then planning to go Hokkaido for 4D3N before coming back to Tokyo to fly back to SG. Have booked first 3 nights in Tokyo only, staying in Super Hotel, Shinjuku. Other nights not confirmed yet coz itinerary not firmed up yet. Still trying to do my research. I am going crazy planning this trip.

      Do note that 23 Nov is a public holiday there. So guess not good day for popular places like Disneyland.

      Has anyone used the Fuji Hakone pass with departure from Shinjuku? Does it cover highway bus both ways? I read the pamphlet and it says only can use for one way bus between shinjuku and kawaguchiko. It does not cover the bus from kawaguchiko to fuji 5th station also, right?

      Haven’t heard much feedback about people travelling from tokyo to kawaguchiko, covering fuji 5th station, lake cruise, ropeway all in a day. Is it doable? The feedback that most people have about those day trips is that the duration at fuji 5th station is so short, only 30 mins. Travelling time so long comparatively. Anyone can share more?

      Hi,

      Planning a 10D F&E trip in end Nov 2016 to Tokyo and Hokkaido for my family of 2A2C. Need comments and advice on the itinerary and transport as I still could not make up my mind after reading through many pages on this thread.

      My draft itinerary is like this :
      day 1 : SG -> Tokyo - Shinjuku/Tokyo Metropolitan Govt Building
      day 2 : Tokyo
      day 3 : Tokyo - disneyland / disneysea
      day 4 : Travel to Hakone / Kawaguchiko (Mt Fuji 5th station, Kawaguchiko music forest)
      day 5 : Hakone/Kawaguchiko -> Hakodate
      day 6 : Hakodate
      day 7 : Hakodate
      day 8 : Hakodate -> Tokyo
      day 9 : Tokyo shopping / Onsen hotel
      day 10: Tokyo -> SG

      1. Is it advisable to go to Hakone or Kawaguchiko to see Mt Fuji, given that my next stop after that is to go Hakodate? What mode of transport should I take from either Hakone or Kawaguchiko to Hakodate (train or fly)?

      2. Is it possible to take highway bus from Shinjuku to Kawaguichicho Station, check in to hotel near kawaguichio station, go Mount Fuji 5th station by local bus, kawaguchiko music forest?

      3. Any nice, reasonable onsen hotel to recommend that is convenient for travelling to Narita Airport on the next day?

      4. Is it worth to travel to Hokkaido for 4D3N stay by train or flight, considering the time and cost involved?

      5. I am considering getting the flexible 6 Day JR East-South Hokkaido pass at 28,000 yen or the 7 day JR pass at 29,110 yen? Or not get either pass at all if I fly to Hokkaido?

      Any comments or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

      I stayed in Bandera suites Silom, 2 bedroom apartment in dec last year. Clean, decent, near both SILOM MRT and sala daeng bts. Nearby has many eateries and shopping complex with supermarket. Reasonable price.

      Thank you, dragonmummy, for your suggestions… Will look around for suitable tours.

      I was planning to go Damnoen Saduak floating market f&e by taking taxi. Not too keen to take up tour package as they bring tourists to those factories along the way and no freedom to control timing. Not planning to stay too long there.

      But I read a lot of reviews about tourists being ripped off when they are being dropped off at the wrong place and subsequently forced to pay sky high prices for their long tail boats. Anybody has some tips to share to avoid this? Anyone knows where exactly is the place where we can visit the market, with the option of either taking the long tail boat or paddle boat if we want later? What is the lowest or average price for the long tail boat or paddle boats?

      Any sharing is appreciated. You’re welcomed to pm me to share any info. Tks!
