      What do you think of this method instead of using \"Guess & Check\"?

      Hi,

      If you have come across or subscribed to Da Mu Zhi (大拇指) newspaper, how do you find it?

      Hope to get some opinion about it here.
      Thanks!

      You getting for your kid?

      Hi jedamum,

      I have been referred by someone to that publication. So I am seeking for more opinions about it here. Couldn't find any specific thread discussing about it, but if it already exists, would appreciate someone pointing me there. I will then remove this thread to reduce any necessary clutter in the forum. Thanks!

      Thanks.

      Is \"Guess & Check\" the only method being taught in schools for such a question, I wonder.

      Are u a service provider for Math programme conducting a survey or asking for your kid because you not sure? I am confused.

      Hi jedamum,

      Sorry for any confusion.
      I'm interested to find out, if anyone has found other better ways (besides the \"Guess & Check\" technique) to teach children how to solve this type of problem.

    • RE: All About Getting Help for Students Weak in Math

      Practice is important in Math, but practising without guidance can be ineffective and even discouraging for some.

      I guess that’s why tuition centers and private tutors are still thriving businesses in Singapore.

      But what about using technology? With the ease of internet access & widespread use of technology like youtube, is there a place for technology to give some effective guidance without the hassle & cost of tuition classes?

      What is the best way to solve this question?

      \"A spider has 8 legs. A cockroach has 6 legs. There are 7 cockroaches & spiders in total. There are 46 legs in all. How many spiders are there?\"

      Apply Guess & Check method

      Draw table columns for No. of spiders, No. of cockroaches, Total legs.

      4 spiders, 3 cockroaches ---> (4x8)+(3x6)=32+18=50 legs (wrong)

      Try again and decrease the number of legs so should have 1 more cockroach and 1 less spider.

      3 spiders, 4 cockroaches ---> (3x8)+(4x6)=24+24=48 legs (wrong)

      Try again and decrease the number of legs so make it 2 spiders and 5 cockroaches.

      2 spiders, 5 cockroaches ---> (2x8)+(5x6)=16+30=46 legs (correct)

      Answer: 2 spiders and 5 cockroaches

      Thanks.

    • RE: Comparing Math Enrichment Programmes

      Hi everyone,

      We are very keen in getting feedback about our newly launched Mathematics enrichment portal for Primary School students at - http://www.playmaths.com

      - What is your opinion about enrolling your child for online enrichment instead of physical enrichment classes?

      - Does offering a 100% money back guarantee that your child's grade will improve persuade you to give the online mode of enrichment a try?

      - What do you think of our method of coaching as compared to other online enrichment offerings you have come across?

      We welcome your feedback!

      Hi! I'm not longer a newbie but I was just wondering whether any of the senior members can help me with this problem - I've been trying to send an email to the administrator but I every time I try to do so it says that my email doesn't get sent through. But after a few attempts it says that i can only send a certain number of emails every day - which is why I thought my mail had sent through, but it doesn't seem to be the case because it's been a week and I haven't gotten a reply?

      I'm a newbie and I'm also facing a problem getting in contact with KiasuParents. I used the contact form in their \"Contact Us\" section but kept getting \"message not sent\" error. Hope someone can help.
