Btw, my DH told me last night that financial analysts have raised the spectre of 3 banks defaulting as a result of their exposure to commodities, oil and gas and China. The credit default swaps (basically insurance premiums against default) for the bonds issued by these 3 banks have also spiked in the last 2 days.

The 3 banks? State Bank of India, Deutsche Bank and Standard Chartered. Keeping my fingers crossed that nothing untoward will happen.

Oh dear, this sounds worrisome! What will be the worst case scenario?

Worst case scenario, the deposit insurance gets activated and you will be able to recover your first $50K only.

SCB shares in UK plunged from £10 to £3.85 within the last year. Hoping that Temasek Holdings with 19% of SCB will not let it fail :xedfingers:
Where is the source of information that yr DH get from?

yes, I remembered and your move is absolutely smart in view of the current situation.
Not necessarily correct with this statement.
It is a norm that the longer the tenure, ir will be higher than shorter one.
The current situation will never be on status quo for the next 2 years. Personally, the right move is going for shorter tenure to test what is the then prevailing market condition and decide whether to lock in with FD or Equity etc.

Pls do not bring in POLITICS into this thread and talking about votes.

Parents here are concerned and would want to know what are the protocols that schools and police would adopt moving forward.

However much you loathe politics, you cannot possibly run away from it if you ever want those changes discussed thus far to be effected. I don't give a damn about share of votes because GE is due in 5 yrs' time. But to grill the Min, to debate on bills to enact legislation, you need the involvement of politicians! That is, elected politicians aka parliamentarians, not those unelected ones commenting on the sidelines.

This is the next level that selected people might want to chat about: Is anyone going to raise this PQ? Which party will file this in the next sitting? Will Min raise this himself? What else will the GPC of Law/Home Affairs say? What exactly are the amendments, if any?

But if the majority of you want to hover at the same old level of commiserating, blaming and criticizing, no one can stop you also! Lamentations will just go on and on for another 10 more pages, through CNY, until you hear from SPF or jointly with MOE) again 😛

Whatever these politicians have in their own agenda, the public will see for themselves.
Now is SDP, who is next? With 1 page on SDP which we have seen for ourselves, :imdrowning: it can churn to 10 pages talking abt this politic too.
Moreover, it has become too political when someone mentioned ' I hope they lose more votes in next election' . Get it?

The shocking part to me is that the DSA sportsmen seem to have been made use by the school to earn awards, then conveniently discarded into the O level track, and not even being prepared well for the exams. Imagine the great disappointment of the sportsmen and their parents.
You have worded strongly that these students seem to have been conveniently discarded into O level track and been made use to earn awards for the school. Any ground of evidence?

• RE: RI’s ‘O’ level scores: only one in 10 qualified for JC.

Triggering such news on RI is really uncalled for.

Yes, most of us will equate RI as the premium top sch in Spore.

However, it does not mean that this top notch school must produce top notch results for these 10 students. It takes both to clap.

Firstly, I don’t see it as shocking news just because this is RI. DSA Sports is always demanding and it is a norm to practice 3 times a week or even missing classes to participate on national level. Hence, as parents, we have to set the correct expectations. If you know jolly well that this will take a toil on the academics, pls DON’T opt for DSA Sports for the sake of entering top notch schools and even some think the name RI means ‘got face to showcase to their relatives’.

The learning curve is always much steeper and it is never been easy to manage both academics and sports at the same time. Thus, when the GCE O result shows that these kids are not meeting to expectation, automatically, the pointing finger is at RI.

Pls wake up and see if yr kid has the real calibre on the 1st place !

The 2 JCs established post 2000 are:

Innova JC, 2005
Meridian JC, 2003

So now we have,

Eunoia JC, 2016

Maybe it's a new trend from 2015. I reckon Quinoa, Paranoia, Euphoria to come next.

Haha ! I like yr new trend names if only these names for condo.
This reminds me in the late 1990s, the condos are named w Tower as Sherwood Towers, Trellis Towers, Fernwood Towers. Now, the names are w Residences like Bartley Residences, Canberra Residences, Foresque Residences. A trend indeed.

If can't compromise with scgs girls, the sng and chs pupils can tell them : you nonya, we aren't.\"

Wasn't pleased with the name too. It sounds too nonya or like in a street road in Eunos.
Given both SNG and CH are SAP schs except for SCGS, wouldn't it be simple to name as ''SAP JC\" instead.

like that nonya girl won't be happy 😉 :siam:
But this is not Peranakan JC leh.

The name sounds girly, do not see how Catholic High boys are involved
Besides, if u break up the 3 sound syllabus, the last 2 sound syllabus ... Sound like nonya food, or nonya ladies.
Whether food related or nonya Persnakan girls involved (perhaps more apt for SCGS girls), the name of this JC sounds ... Feminine

When you say aloud this name Eunonia : do you feel associated or related to St Nick or Catholic High strong missionary heritage background ?
Zero !
