Would any unisex school ever have the chance to become an IP school? hmm…
OMG, cant believe that all the IP secondary schools are all single sex schools
IP may not really ensure that the life of a student would be smooth sailing. Some students may “slack off” or do other stuff instead of studying during the “O” level period.
Does everyone know the real reason of IP in schools like RI, HCI etc? The reason is that the “O” levels are simply too easy for the students. Thus, the school bypasses the “O” levels but the test papers that replace this national test is actually even more difficult.Being in IP also does not gurantee you a place in the JC. In HCI, you need to score an average of B3 to be eligible for the HCJC in which failing to do so will result you being kicked out from HCI.
Many people may see IP as a means to enter a JC effortlessly but the real purpose of IP to drill harder questions into the students. The “O” level is a national exam and must be moderated so that the weaker students would not do too badly. IP is just there so that the better students can do harder questions and of course, it also comes with its conditions such as like i stated before, an average of B3 for HCI.
IP is not for students to relax during the “O” level period, it is for them to train themselves for harder tasks, thus please do not think IP ensures you a direct admission into JC.
You have to work hard for it
ApronMama:Maybe they should consider the option but wont it seem unfair to others? If a student usually does well, all A1s, the worst he can do is maybe all C5s. The government would not let people retain because of this as you still pass. Those wh maybe have an average of F9 should have the chance to retain but there will be just this feeling of unfairness in the hearts of the other pupilsIf an IP student has been doing fine in the course and for some reason, eg gfbf issues, do badly in the 'A' level, they should be given a second chance to stay in the same school to re-do 'A' level.powershengyang:
This is because if students whom are faring badly enter IP, they would most likely fail the \"A\" levels and be unemplyed for most times in this highly competitive world. Their highest education would be the PSLE as they will not have the \"O\" levels to \"back them up\".
I think IP should be implemented in like all of you said, the consistent band 1 schools but there must be a COP for that too such as an average of A2s so as to ensure that only those who will pass “A” levels will get into a JC.

There should not even be new IP schools. IP is for students who are predicted to pass “O” levels with flying colours. This lets them use the time for studying to do more meaningful stuff. Schools like neighbourhood schools etc etc should not even have IP, if you have an average of B4 for the majority of th students in the school, they should not deserve the IP status. Having IP status for too many schools will result in a mass drop in the standard of education in singapore.
If the students are admitted into JC and they fail “A” levels, their highest education standard would be at PSLE level, causing them to lose out. “O” levels are there to help students who cannot or may not pass the “A” levels, not to burden them.
Guthix:I am from HCI personally and have not heard of any propaganda messages about NUSHS at all.No, not exactly true. The accelerated syllabus and the module courses is what that interest my son most. And some other very influential pupils, as I suspect, are leading the fight for NUSHS. Young people their age are incredibly vulnerable to such techniques, as they view themselves as \"grown-ups\" and don't really care for elders' advice and are young and indecisive enough to fall for the techniques, making the society of the class largely power-based. Fortunately, my son does not fall under any of the above categories.powershengyang:
Really, i thought propaganda was only between HCI and RI, have not heard of any propaganda concerning NUSHS yet. HCI and RI are strongly against each other as they compete for the best \"A\" level results each year, dont know why your child told you about NUSHS being in the equation as well.
Guthix:Very true. A lot of my child's classmates are being influenced by each other and the whole class is like a battle of propaganda between the schools. 3 major \"sects\", RI, HCI, NUSHS tries to pull the most classmates to join them. Quite a lot have been wavered by NUSHS' Module System and HCI's humanities. For now, there, as far as my son tells me, a stalemate
Really, i thought propaganda was only between HCI and RI, have not heard of any propaganda concerning NUSHS yet. HCI and RI are strongly against each other as they compete for the best \"A\" level results each year, dont know why your child told you about NUSHS being in the equation as well.Since many people are offered by both RI and HCI, and maybe also ACSI and NUSH. I don't think ALL of those with multiple offers will choose RI. RI could have estimated number of people who will give up their CO and gave out WL accordingly. That could explain why RI WL is shorter than other schools, and it could also mean those given RI WL have the same high chance of getting it?wonderm:
I also thought that WL for RI would have a lesser chance but last year, all of my son's friend's (about 5/6) who were on the WL for RI were all offered places. My son and a few of his friends gave up RI and chose HCI instead.
