Oh, I got it! Thanks again, Ender.
At first I thought the 14u was from converting 2/3 to 14/21 to make it proportional.
But it was 2/3 x 21u = 14u.

Hi Ender,
May I know how come you don’t use
Beads left for Lily = 21u -12u =9u since
Beads left for Jane is 21u +42 - 14u of which 14u is derived from 2/3 = 14/21. -

Thanks Ender. Is there another method like units and parts or model? Algebra may be too abstract. -

Jane had 42 more beads than Lily. Each of them gave away some of their beads to their friends. The number of beads Lily gave was 4/7 of the number of beads Jane had at first. The number of beads Jane gave away was 2/3 of the number of beads Lily had at first. Both had an equal number of beads left. How many beads did Jane have at first? (CBS P6 SA2 2012 5 marks) -

Please help.
There were some yellow and green cubes in Bag A and Bag B.
In bag A, 2/9 of the cubes were yellow and the rest were green.
In bag B, the ration of the number of yellow cubes to the number of green cubes was 1:5.
There were 6 times as many cubes in bag A as in bag B.
Then John bought 105 yellow cubes and put them into bag B. After that, the ration of the number of yellow cubes to the number of green cubes in bag B became 5:4.
How many more yellow cubes were there in bag A than in bag B in the end? -

Terry, Carl and Dave bought a present for their friend. Terry paid 1/3 of the total amount paid by Carl and Dave. Carl paid 2/5 of the amount paid by Terry and Dave. If Terry paid $24 less than Dave for the present, find the cost of the present.
Thanks. -

Got a question.
There are some red and blue beads in a box.
If 5 red beads are removed, the ratio of the number of remaining red beads to blue beads is 1:6.
If 8 blue beads instead of 5 red beads are removed, the ratio of the number of red beads to the number of remaining blue beads is 1:4.
How many beads are there in the box?
Thank you.
