Are you refering to Pri 1 for 2012? Yes, we have got our confirmation to PV few months ago. The letter mentioned that the PV duty will start in Jun 2011.

It sounds terrible. My siblings' kids are all in primary sch, i have never heard that kind of things before. How can a teacher handle such situation in this manner? At least he/she should give parent a call to find out what went wrong. Giggler, if you don't mind, can you share with me what is the respond of the P or VP? My girl will start Pri sch in 2012, i need to know more about West Grove, which is one of the two choices we have now. Thanks for sharing.

I have done my 40 hrs of PV in West Grove, helping out during recess time. Currently, I have signed up to be in the Parent Support Group and is helping out with the Buddy Reading Programme and some adhoc duties. From my experience with the school, I have found that the school has placed the well being of the children as utmost important.


In view of this, gate duty (as some might find rather mandane, judging from the post in this forum) whereby the PV helps to supervise the children as they wait for their parents to fetch them, is probably one of the duties that the school felt essential to ensure safety and order duing the school dismissal time. As a parent, I'm glad that there are gate keepers around as my child will not be left alone in case I am late in fetching him. Thus do not underestimate the duty of the gate keeper.

My take is that if you intend to do PV, you need to have an open mind and be committed to what you have signed up for. Remember it is voluntary, ie. you are doing it out of your own will for the benefit of others, without expecting any return. Of course, in this case, you are likely to get a placement for your kid in this school, as a tangible benefit of volunteering.

Hi JR, thanks for sharing. We actually don't mind do the gatekeeper duty...but meeting with the VP didn't left us very good impression. Really Glad to know from you that the school do placed the well being of the children as utmost important. If possible, would you like to share with me more about the school? for instance, how is the teachers' standard and what is the focus of the school? Wondering does the school provide higher chinese? I've just called up a school that I'm PV-ing. The lady in-charged told me that even though I've clocked in the 40 hours, I must still continue to PV; else they (the school) will terminate me. Is that the common practice?

Hey, i have sent in my PV form last year, yet to receive any call for interview. I thought they mentioned that for Pri 1 (2012), they will only start calling for interview in June 11? You have already been selected as PV?

After getting to know more about West Grove....my impression and perception of this school/vice-principal totally changed. I started to like the school..and believe it a suitable learning environment for my Kids.

I was informed to attend PV interview on this coming friday. I have heard that for the past years, West Grove did not set control on the number of intake for their PV, which resulted in balloting for <1KM in Phase 2B. Any news whether they will restrict the number of intakes this year?

Can you share with me what criteria are the schools looking at for selecting a PV? I need to know to increase my chances to be selected
