      Hi,

does anybody know about Math and Science Symposium? does MMCS conduct such symposium? I heard a mum from Fairfield Methodist Primary about it.She told me that the symposium is for the parents to learn how to teach their child heuristic model. I hope did not missed it. she told me it was very useful as now she understand how to solve problem sums using heuristic model. as we are still new to this system my DD1 whos in P4 is struggling big time cause she missed the foundation of this model in P2.have you guys heard about it?

Ha!ha! Sorry Cantbearit2, geez it's kinda hard to see using an iPhone. I meant to share my story to Jesyeo regarding her worries about her DD2. Ooopsy daisy!cheers mummies.

haha... no worries. πŸ˜„ It's gd to share. My DD1 not so gifted like yur DD2 leh....hee.....but IM contented as long as she keep up wif the main stream.

not sure abt.gifted, didn't attempt to established.IAm totally with you, as long as my DD is happy no pressure. Sometimes we got so excited abt the gifted idea that we push the child way way hard that it kills the fun of studying. For me, I let her do it on her own pace and I know she is very happy in her class. πŸ˜‰

      Hi Cantbearit,

      I have 2 girls and an 8 mos.old son.
I wanna share u my experienced with my 2 daughters. My DD1 can sing almost all nursery rhymes at the age of 1. My DD2 could not say a word until 2+. I was so worried that Iam ready to engage a speech therapist. Dr. Kept telling me everything is fine.anyway, I know how you feel right now. Iam sure DR. Telling you same thing her ears are perfectly fine nothing to worry about. Thank goodness, one day she started talking in full sentences. By the age of 3 she started reading.kindergarten teacher ask me to get her to betested for gifted. Well, no! I just want her to enjoy herself. She is now in 2 Humility and perfectly happy. So, I think your DD2 is just observing and taking everything in. i hope my story may help you a bit to put ur mind at ease.

      Hi Tinkerbell,

      Hi Tinkerbell and Cantbearit2,

Thank God it is not my DD who's getting the firing everyday of her life. It affects her though. She is so scared that she might get scolding also. She told me how one of the girl gets in trouble all the time. She doesn't like the way she kept telling them that they are not worthy to be in the best class. Somehow it affects her confidence to do something because it may not be good enough for her teacher. I can feel her withrawal, I tried to build her confidence but everytime there was an incident in the classroom involving her other classmates she don't feel doing anything.infact , I think she wants to be invincible so that the teacher won't even know her existence. On the other hand,my DD2 is in 2 Humility she adores her FT. She is really enjoying school and always want to do extra work. Because she knows she will get recognition for it.simple well done! Or great job it means a lot to a child.thanks a lot, it is so nice to have a place like this where you can be free to express your thoughts.I hope my gals survive this year with out so much emotional dilemma. πŸ™

Thanks Tinkerbell points taken. I think my DD had lost her spark this year. She did pretty well last year. She joined MMCS one term late but managed to grab first in class. She is never involved in what I mentioned scolding incident in a nearly everyday class affair but it left her a very bad impression and just lost her eagerness to do well in class. Her exact word "whatever, my teacher is never good in giving praise but verry good in putting us down. She said, we are not worthy to be in this class." My DD feels that there is no point in doing well coz u never get the recognition anyway.

Good morning everyone. i have been following the thread recently, but seems to me nothing is mention about teacher. How do you guys rate your form teachers? i feel that form teacher somehow can make or break a child in some ways or sort.we are still new to MMCS, our first year went well. i found the form teacher quite supportive specially to Mrs.Ho. I take my hat off her,she is very motherly!! is it taboo to discuss teacher behavior in this site?

Totally agreed with this...The sensitivity and understanding of a teacher is very important to the child esp those in P1 and 2 when they are still in the fragile stage. Unfortunately, my DD just had a bad encounter last evening due to the teacher's insensitivity 😞

      Hi Worriedparent74,

Thank you! I know IAm not alone. The thing is teacher must realize every kids are different. Scolding them in front of the class damages the child's self-steem. Comparing them to the good student and making them feel a total looser isn't the way to motivate a child. Mummis pr daddies out there, how would you handle this kind of delicate situation with out compromising the good teacher and student relationship in the class room?
