All IP classes same pace. They don’t do extra projects just bcoz they were previously fr GEP. By the time they’re in Yr 5/6, each will be recognize by their own merits. No more GEP distinguishing.
there is still the ACS class though (Accelerated class for science) and the SBGE class (IP equivelant of GEP for yr 3&4). but these only matter based on your y1-2 results and not those from before. SBGE classes are for those who have performed well in their y1-2, and are invited into these classes by the school.the ACS class if for students who have an aptitude for sciences and math, and require a test to enter th ACS class at the end of y2. in this class, you do learn more, with some content being taught from the IBDP textbook. they have their own paper that they sit for other than the conventional MYE or FYE or coursework (Unlike the SBGE classes which has the same exams as the rest of the cohort). these ACS papers (i think? pretty sure) do not count towards their overall grades, but are still exam papers they have to sit for. other than for participating in those science quizzes, the ACS classes' paper will allow them easier entry into choosing a science to sit for in IB (needing again, i think a merit to enter into a HL science, unlike normal people who have to sit for an entrance test). other than that , the 'GEP' classes are more or less the same as other subjects, just with them performing slightly better overall.
but all IP and express classes are still good, so it really matters on what your preference is.

For Year 2 express promotion to Year 3 (IP), what is the typicakl percentage of marks in SA1 required typically?

      About 85% across the board.

really untrue... you can get low to borderline 70s and make get accepted into ip, or get high 80s and not make it... it all matters based on the other aspects of the criteria like teachers recommendation and the interview, and your commitment in CCAS. it all just matters if the school feels that your son is suited for the IP program because grades are definitely not everything(I know from experience)
