My daughter received WL for Nan Hua High. What are the chances for WL? How does WL work? Must PSLE score meets COP?

School will offer a number of COs, based on their DSA intake. Following this will be the WL which will be ranked. Should the CO be rejected by a candidate, the vacancy will be offered to the 1st in the WL. This goes on.....

As to what are the chances, no one can tell for sure because it depends on the available vacancies from those who did not accept the COs. However, you may be able to ask the school (if they are willing to reveal) their past experience. If your DD is very keen in the WL school, just put that as 1st choice in the DSA option and she should know if the WL is converted by PSLE results time.

PSLE score has no bearing on the conversion of WL. If your child is offered a place in the school, just need to meet the minimal of express cut-off 200 to be able to enter the school.

      Thanks for the information

      2) Fairfield 240
      3) Swiss Cottage 239
      4) Chung Cheng 236

if parents’ expectations are managed accordingly, then CO/WL or R is not the end of the world.
Of course regardless of the outcome of CO/WL or R certainly is not the end of the world. The phrase "expectations are managed accordingly" is attached with resources, time, money, emo, and sacrifices. Certainly these are inputs required and potential contentious outcome is minimised if the playing field is balance and fair. However if the playing field is skewed, then the feeling of indignant is unfortunately exhibited.

Just like sports or music, academic route also have "specialties". There are some students who excel in Maths / Science / Languages, but may / may not fare as well in other subjects. These are the students who will benefit in the academic route offered by some schools.

I know parents and kids who do not bother about DSA and just concentrate on PSLE preparation. DSA is a "bonus" - it’s up to you whether you want to try for it. If you do not try, then there is no chance at all. If you try and you get it, that’s excellent for you. Otherwise, life goes on as usual and you still study for PSLE.

On the statement "There are some students who excel in Maths / Science / Languages, but may / may not fare as well in other subjects. These are the students who will benefit in the academic route offered by some schools". Yes I agree with this intent. Hence DSA-Acad should be more explicit e.g. DSA-Science, DSA-Math etc, shouldnt it. It minimises all false hope and false expectation.

I understand that last year only 1 CO for EL/MT. Thus only 11 COs given for total DSA academic in 2013.
In addition, we received CO on 13 Aug 2013, after interview on 6 Aug.
With all this dismal number of admittance for MS, i begin to question the validity of putting kids for DSA application. Importantly, i question the intent of DSA since irrespective of the application route, only the brightest and smartest have the advantage. The money, effort, time and sacrifices spent can be put to better use. It is practically a playground for GEPers only. To be candid, only the crump is left for MS. That’s it for my DD. Will be wiser for my younger ones.

Most schools will released results in mid August right?

"Most schools will released results." Is it a requirement that prior to successful CO via DSA Non Acad, all applicants must be interviewed? Has there been precedent where an applicant was successfully given CO without interview?

It is good to receive rejection mail or letter if the child is not selected, to have closure and move on.

Thats what we thought so too. An early closure is preferred.
