• RE: Transferring of JCs at J2

sgteen97:
I am currently a JC student, and I was previously from a IP school. But due to certain complications, I had to take the O levels, and I did not manage to score well enough to get back to the JC that my sec sch was affiliated to. However, it really made me determined to get my act together, and now I am aiming to score top in my JC. Most of my friends are back there as they were IP throughout, and I really fit in there, but in my new JC, i feel like I do not fit in. I was just wondering if I scored well for my promos (top 5%), would I be able to go back to that JC? (the cca is also very interested in taking me)

I don't know whether you still need advice but I think it's not advisable to switch JCs. Reason being that different schools have different ways to teach the subject. (some might teach some chapters first, others, later). Perhaps you could try making new friends and trying out something new. Probably you're just missing your friends, since they were those who spent 4 years with you. Ultimately, if you still cannot get over your friends, you still can see them back in university. In fact, as there are only limited amount of universities, many people will even meet their primary school friends in uni again.

No matter what choice you make, hope that you will not regret it and all the best for your studies! šŸ˜„

can someone help me to solve this question? TY

http://i57.tinypic.com/5buybs.jpg\">
Where did you get this question from? It's solvable but the answer is quite a weird number.

Bring the 2 to the left

1 + 5/root y = y

multiply everything by root y

root y + 5 = y^(3/2)

Let root y = x

x + 5 = x^3
x^3 - x - 5 = 0
x = 1.90416

Therefore root y = 1.90416
y = 1.90416 ^2
= 3.625825
= 3.63 (3 s.f)
anyone recently went there? how is it?

I would like to know too. Going there in June and hopefully all the protest will have stopped. Any tips or places to must visit? :imcool:

i heard now still ongoing... shopping i only recommend platinum fashion mall and union mall if you are into fashion. For food you can go chinatown, theres a seafood place called T&K. The last time I ate 1-2 years ago was really good and cheap. dont know about now though. And just walk a distance theres a dessert stall Sweet Time if im not wrong. I like their honeydew thingy dessert (forgot the name). and nearby theres mango sticky rice from an old lady in a lorry. Ahh hope they're all still there when I return!

On a side note, the best tip I can give you is to NEVER EVER EVER listen to suggestions from taxi/ tuktuk drivers to go somewhere else and to know your research well. I totally got conned as I told the driver that I wanted to go to this famous restaurant. He told me theres a very good restaurant and asked me if it was -the restaurant name but with an additional syllabus- so I couldnt understand him accurately but I heard the restaurant name in part of his sentence. When I got there I saw the restaurant name with an additional syllabus. Never thought anything of it cuz i saw the place quite crowded. No menus, no price and just order. Got conned almost $800sgd for just a few dishes. Screw the taxi driver...
Thank you for your recommendation. And most importantly, the warning! Will watch out when I go to Bangkok!

• RE: The Return Of The HAZE.....

nicnac:
The smell was bad in the east this morning at 5plus when I woke up.

Please make sure that when you pray, pray for the downpour to come at the right timings... Not when the kids are going to school, coming home from school, hubby going to work and coming home from work period.

Best to rain at night, when everyone is safe at home.
Imagine those going home late at night after working nightshift, and there's a downpour.. I guess there isn't really a right timing..

Anyway, anyone knows of a good suggestion to lessen irritation to the eyes because of the haze?
I am a seocndary 3 student and am the VIA or CIP rep of my class. I would usually pay more attention to the websites of NLB and Red Cross for VIA opportunities, but they are limited and it is hard for my class to travel to other parts of Singapore for VIA events. May I know what other websites are there to search for VIA opportunities other than sgcares? Thanks.

I'm not too sure what you mean exactly by the term VIA. You can check out https://www.facebook.com/VolunteerNowww though if that's what you're looking for!

Thanks. VIA stands for Value In Action, it is the new term used to replace CIP.
You're welcome! Thanks for the clarification and thanks kitty2 too! Seems like I'm really getting old!

• RE: Q&A - PSLE Math

danishcookies:
The ratio of Jane money to Mary money was 3:4 at first. After Jane gave Mary$24, the ratio of Jane money became 2:1. What was the total amount of money they had altogether.

many many thanks
Hope I'm not too late. Anyway, key to solve ratio questions like this is really simple. I always tell my students to remember to find out \"What remains the same?\"

In this case, the total amount of money Jane and Mary had altogether remains the same. Hence,

Before,
J:M:T
3:4:7

After,
J:M:T
1:2:3

Since the total remains the same, you got to make them equal. Hence,

Before,
J:M:T = J: M: T
3:4:7 = 9:12:35

After,
J:M:T = J: M: T
1:2:3 = 7:14:35

Hence, you can clearly see that 2 units (either 9-7=2 OR 14-12=2) is = $24. Hence, total you'll need to find 35 units, which is 24/2 x 35 = (solve it yourself šŸ˜„ )

Check the ratios again, cause you didn't typed the question fully. But I've already explained the gist of the question.

• RE: Volunteering at NLB

medontknowwhattosay:
Hi. I am Sec 2, and idk if y'all parents know, but we have this LEAPS programme in which we must fulfill our CIP hours, and me being me (KIASU), I want to finish ASAP. I'm thinking of volunteering at the library, but I'm not the most sociable, especially with older teens. Has any of your DD/DS volunteered there before, and how was the experience?

Thanks. šŸ™‚
I've volunteered there before myself quite some time ago. Trust me, you're pretty much on your own most of the time if you signed up to arrange books. It can get pretty boring at times so I sort of gave myself challenges like arranging the books faster etc. Haha. If you're not comfortable with socialising, you can grab a friend along with you when you volunteer. And then slowly start making new friends and enjoy volunteering!
